1925 chevrolet engine

Hi

I have a 1925 chevrolet with the 171 engine the cam has around 1 inch of backward movement which doesnt seem right does it have a spacer /washer on both ends of the cam or just at the front?

Here is what is listed in the parts list that I have. I don’t own a 1925 Chev but own a couple of 26’s and 27’s I know there are quite a few differences but the both 26 and 27 use a thrust washer that have 1 or 2 screws that retain both is at the cam. They definitely don’t end up with 1inch end play.

thats very helpful thank you, we have the engine back together now and all seems ok we think the cam gear wasnt on tight enough so we have pressed it on then fitted it into the engine.
