1952 bumper guards

I’m trying to figure out which bumper guards are correct for the 1952 Special. I see both the large and small ones in junkyards. Mine came with both, someone had attached both at some point in time. So what’s the answer? I do know that the guards aren’t mounted in the center as the small ones are in the photos.

1952 bumper guards overlap the bumper (outer guards shown on the car )

1951 bumper guards are shown closes to the center , not correct for your car .

Looking at photos and literature I was under the impression that perhaps the small guards would have been for the Special and the longer ones were installed on the Super and Roadmaster series. Anyone care to post good photos?

From a 1952 Buick Sales Facts Book . . .

▲  The smaller front bumper guards were standard equipment on 40-series SPECIALS and 50-series SUPERS. 

 

▲  The jumbo front bumper guards were standard equipment on 70-series ROADMASTERS and offered as an option on both the 40-series SPECIALS and 50-series SUPERS as part of the  SAFETY GROUP that included backup lights and a parking brake warning light located on the instrument panel.

Nice find and report Al.  You know, I have always thought that if a car looks like bumper car it should have the bumper guards as well.  With the 52 RM it appears one could of used your car as a push vehicle during the winter to make a few extra bucks !
