Guest
I have had a "revelation" of sorts. I have spent way too much time worring about this whole Chevy/Buick thing. Life is too short and reading my posts on the subject made me see that I had too much passion for such an inconsequential issue as this. I will go on building cars MY way and leave it at that. Thanks for not totally ripping my head off. YellowLark
You were getting over the top, but you know your subject, and, let's face it - passion is what drives any argument.
Be glad that you have the sense to realize when to take a time-out.

------------------

Guest
I did have one guy email me personally and say "Ok convince me to keep the nailhead". I sent him a few loooong replys and he is now not only keeping the nailhead, but I have seen him anwsureing nailhead related questions. He has taken an earnest interest in BUICKS. So I have gotten some positive responses. Thanks for the support guys.
------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
"Fan of most anything that moves human beings"
The Old Guy
Martinsr, if you did not have the passion to defend what you believe, you would not have helped so many people on this forum !!!! Guest
That last post is not a joke. The 242C is that little coupe from around 1980 with the chopped top, that's right it really had a chopped top by Bertone'. They are very cool.
------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
"Fan of most anything that moves human beings"

86 2dr.ltd
Sorry!Yuk!5 oh Ford!Yuk!Volvo?Yuk.I dont like Volvo styling or lack of it but with their supposedly great drive train why would someone put a Ford in a Volvo?YUK!I cant believe Bertone put their name on that slab sided Volvo. The 5 oh Ford is going to be the next craze.Everything will be powered by the 5 oh.
Remember the days when all the cars on the race track looked different and were powered by different engines and many different ideas? Those were the days! Guest
John, I am a fool (once again) you're right, it's a 262C.
862dor, OKay, how about a GN motor!!!
It's either that or a 413 wedge Dodge with the factory 3' wide cross ram!

------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
"Fan of most anything that moves human beings"
Guest John Chapman
Brian, 'fool' seems pretty harsh... sorry, that wasn't my intent at all. I'm impressed you know that fine car. Not many of them sold (price)/surviving (maintenance cost). Seems they were around $18K in '79-'80.
Buicks V6 was Volvo-Penta's choice in the mid 60's. We had a cabin cruiser with that powerplant. Lasted a long time. Darned V6 shows up in the most unexpected places.
JMC
Guest
I know your intent John Yeah, I realy would like to have one. There was one in the wrecking yard in town a year or so ago and it really broke my heart. It deserved better than that.
86 2dr, I really am a fan of "most" (notice I added "Most" to my signature, I didn't want anyone thinking I would be a fan of a SBC powered '55 Century) that 262C Volvo is a "factory custom" and really is a cool car, maybe even "Kool" It was send as a bare body to Italy from Sweden, chopped and then sent back to be completed! I don't care who made it (if it were a Chevy even!) that's just plain cool!
Besides if you have no love for Volvos you can install that GN motor with no guilt.
------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
"Fan of most anything that moves human beings"
SBRMD
Brian: Do you want a '79 Volvo 262c, silver w/ black top? No kidding, cousin, who lives across the street from my parents, has one, been looking to sell for a while, but not trying too hard. It's one-owner, he dotes on his cars; the man's about 77 years old, always drives a current Volvo, and I think he just doesn't have the room. I think it's in good shape, probably less than 100k miles. Do you want me to investigate? If so, e-mail me.
Steve Robin
Minneapolis, MN
SBRMD@AOL.COM
SBRMD
Called my cousin: Model 262C; car has 73k actual, runs but not used in a long time, not driveable right now due to rusted/collapsed strut brace. Newish rubber and brakes, beautiful condition leather interior, moderate rust but good appearance, holes in trunk floor. Sounds like he'd take about $1,500.-, it's in his way, wants to get rid of it. ??????
Guest
Sounds like a deal (except that "rust" stuff, what is it? )
I'm in California and if it's in Minnesota, that would make it pretty hard.
------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
"Fan of most anything that moves human beings"
86 2dr.ltd
Nope,I'd feel guilty for wasting a GN engine on such a slab of concrete.I just dont like Volvo styling and theres no cure!Even if they had the vision to try chopping a top on this model car.The money they spent shipping these to Italy and back, paying Bertone to do the job, could have been better spent hiring a body designer that had vision and created something original like the guy that drew up the P1800.Not my favorite from the era but nice and unique.Copied nothing those rear quarters were unique and tastefull.Im sure this is a matter of taste, the Swedes probably dont like the looks of a Ferrari. But my taste is for curves not maximum amount of flat panel.
Regardless, I believe Volvos should have Volvo motors,Fords should have the 5 oh,Chevys should have Chevys and so on.
I must admit however once I had an old worthless Alpine shell sitting around I wanted to put a aluminum V-6 in and call it a Tiger III.That was 20 years ago when I thought the Buick V-6 was aluminum, now you know why I recently inquired on that 215 post.
See,I got it worse than you. Guest
86TwoDoor, Here I was apologizing and you are maybe even sicker than me!
So I guess you wouldn't have liked my mid engine mounted 401 in my Truck? 86 2dr.ltd
So long as the Chevy engine is still under the hood.eek!
Im a little less beholden to pick-ups but if you put a Ford I might begin to quiver.Or vice-versa- reversa. Its an old nail head so I'll let you off.wink
Nice job, shows creativity,so long as you didnt send it to Italy to get that top chopped.eek! I forgot you once mentioned it was mid-ship.Im tryin to imagine the interior.Big dog house I suppose?
Guest
Not too big, I lowered the motor a bunch (one of the problems with the truck is it had aabout 3 1/2" ground clearance in the CENTER) Most people who looked inside never knew it had a motor there.

------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
"Fan of most anything that moves human beings"
Guest
Seems to be a nicely crafted truck. I think you summed it up nicely with the opening post, though. You will build it your way. I will build it my way. Joe will build it his way. etc. etc. I see no more problem with putting the Buick in the Chevy than putting the Chevy in the Buick. If you own a Volvo and feel driving it is about as much fun as watching paint dry, and happen to have an old Caprice in running shape(or Regal, or Cutlass, or a John Deere...)
Then Do It!
The point is, theres a difference between 'passion' and 'bull-headed insults'. If I want to put a 327 Chevy in my '70 GS Thats my business. IT doesn't make the car 'junk'. If fact, it is a bolt in swap. It can be reversed should the need arise. Butchering for a Ford motor, however, maybe isn't a good idea.
I'm not saying don't express opinions. I'm saying it doesn't have to be like a couple of Hockey Moms (my son is better than yours...is not....is too...) State your opinion (without excess emotion) and back it up with facts.
I left this board because of too many childish posts of Its junk cuz its a Chevy etc.. You guys would get all bent outta shape if I said Grand Nationals suck because they are buicks.
And no, it doesn't matter that its a Buick board, Chevelle boards, Plymouth boards, or Massey Fergusson board.
What I'm trying to say is a little mutual respect (regardless of brand, we're all enthusiests, some with more than one brand of car) goes a real long way. There are a few people here who go way beyond what should be acceptable. This is supposed to be why we have a moderator. To moderate.
