PFitz
The float level should be at just having the fuel start to trickle out the bottom of the hole of that brass hex plug in the front end (right side in your picture) of the fuel bowl (car on level ground). To adjust the level. Under the acorn nut vent in the bowl cover is the top of the float needle. The needle has a small slot in the top and a hex jam nut. Hold the needle with a small screwdriver in the slot and back off the jam nut a couple of turns. Under the jam nut the needle threaded guide has two flats you hold with a small open end ignition wrench or a piece of sheet metal with a slot cut in it to slip under the needle's jam nut. That will keep the guide from turning as you screw the needle in or out to change the float level. Screwing the float needle into it's threaded guide lowers the fuel level, screwing it out raises the level. morepower
Paul, thank you so much! Car won't start, carb fills with fuel then leaks from base. Ergghhh!
PFitz
Your welcome, MP. If it's flooding that badly, it may not be the float level adjustment being off. The needle might not be sealing well enough in it's seat. Common with those O series Strombergs. The needle and seat are removable. Any machine shop can machine off any wear groove in the needle tip, recut the seat, and lap and polish both. A simple operation to do and that should keep it from flooding out the motor.
