Andre Tremblay
I searched the forum but coult not fine a topic about my problem: On my special 40, shifting in reverse, first and second is smooth. But when comes time to shift in third, it engages making the gear on gear noise most of the time. once engaged, it goes perfect. Any Idea what could be the problem ? Thanks. DonMicheletti
I'd guess that the synchronizer is worn out or the clutch is dragging a bit
raydurr
It wouldn't cost much to play with different oil viscosities. Sometimes really heavy oil can improve shifting , sometimes the trannys like lighter oil.
MCHinson
What gear oil are you using? Is it full? I swtiched to Masterpro GL4 Gear Oil from O'Reilly's Auto Parts in my 1937 Transmission. With thinner oils, my 1937 transmission had some undesirable noises. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/masterpro-chemicals-4341/chemicals---fluids-16461/maintenance-chemicals-16867/grease---lube-16582/gear-oil---additives-16905/gear-oil---140w-20063/587d6374459f/masterpro-chemicals-conventional-140w-gear-oil/80040/4495693?pos=0
