Ejedmo5
Hello, I am new to the forum, I am looking for information on these headlights. They were in the house that I recently purchased on the wall over the mantel, we took them down and noticed they say 'Made for Cadillac by Gray & Davis'. I am looking for information on the year of car these would have come off of and an idea of whats missing from them if anything, so I can list them appropriately. Also if there is anyway to distinguish originals from replica's that would be useful info as well. I intend to post them on eBay or sell through here if anyone has an idea as to a fair asking price I would greatly appreciate that. I believe they are original, I am curious if the brackets look original too, obviously someone painted them. Thanks for any responses just want these to go to a good home hate to see original parts (if they are) end up in the dump. Thanks, Eric
26-25Buick
Welcome Ejedmo5. What you have is not a set of headlights but actually cowl lights for a Cadillac from 1912 or a little later. A fairly common part that people managed to salvage off of these cars. In fact you’ll find some others on eBay currently. A little hard to tell how complete yours are because on first look they look like someone may have removed the original socket from them to convert it to another light. The brackets are correct for that period Cadillac light. My guess, and it would depend how many scratches and dents are in them and how quickly you want them sold but fair asking is around $250-300 for an average quality pair. Yours having been modified so I suspect they might sit to the bottom end but others may have a different opinion.
Mark Wetherbee
What Buick said is pretty much what I was thinking for a complete pair with brackets. I had a single missing all of the socket parts on my flea booth for several years at $50 and wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still in the garage. Ejedmo5
Thanks for the replies, I'll throw them up on eBay later this week and see what happens., if anyone who sees this post is interested or has questions let me know. May try and clean the paint off them a bit as well I think they would clean up nicely, there is a small dent on the back on the one on the right of the photos other than that appear to be in good shape. I assume the paper-ish material that is behind the light is not factory.
Mark Wetherbee
I would think that paper is where the reflector should be, if it’s supposed to have convex mirrored glass in there that estimate above might not be accurate.
Ejedmo5
I removed the cardboard and it appears the reflector is still there and intact but would need refinishing. It was super crusty when I removed the cardboard so I gave it a wipe so you all could see it clearer.
26-25Buick
Eric The reflectors have a thin coat of silver which is very easy to scratch. I suggest if you really have to, just wash them with a little warm water and soap and gently dry them but don’t rub them. I’d be leaving the cleaning of those to the lucky new owner
just me
1925-26 Buick was correct. They fit a 1912 Cadillac. Charley
