1946 Hiawatha Doodlebug Scooter

Recommended Posts

I got this neat little Doodlebug scooter as part of a package deal recently and while I don't know much about it, I think it's pretty cool. As near as I can tell, the serial number puts it right around 1946 and it seems very well restored and complete. I know there were two different engines, with this one carrying the more common Briggs & Stratton unit. Very nicely restored with pretty much everything new. Also has an accessory generator and optional light kit, all of which work. Kicks over and runs and yes, I've had a brief ride on it around the shop so it works like it should. I was going to take it to Hershey in the back of the Model A woody, but I didn't want to risk messing up the Model A's cargo bay. I've done quite a bit of research on the Doodlebug owner's forum and other venues, and I figure it's worth about $3000 or thereabouts. Fully functional, optioned out, and very nicely finished. Your kids will love it, very easy to ride, just one handle for stop/go and a button to turn it off. Or use it for garage art--right now, it's sitting in our lobby and everyone loves to see it. Lots of fun!
