Vintman
Hi Folks, Would much appreciate your help on this one which seems an American car. Not sure of the country of photo but the numberplate could just be British/Colonial. British numberplates of the period had a dash after the letter. This one could be a lower dot. If British then P would have been Surrey County mid way between 1903 and 1913, so say, cca 1908. This car looks later? It is left hand drive so not probably made/suitable in UK. Not getting anywhere so any help would be much appreciated. nzcarnerd
I thought I had seen that logo somewhere. Searching Crane-Simplex - or apparently more correctly it is Simplex Crane Model No 5 - I found this pic and an interesting site with lots of logos http://auto-logo.info/logo_pages/crane_simplex.shtml
nzcarnerd
Image search Crane-Simplex and you will find at least two with painted radiators.
nzcarnerd
The only thing that bothers me re this one is that the mystery car looks to have a 'splash shield' around the inside front of the chassis. None of the Cranes I found on the net have that feature.
lump
I noticed that the Crane-Simplex photos I saw featured nearly flat-horizontally oriented front leaf springs, with frame horns that turned sharply down to extend down to the front spring eye. The mystery car has front leaf springs with seemingly a greater upward curve in front, and frame horns which are not nearly so angled downward. Otherwise, the cars are very similar, I think.
