1937hd45
Just wondering what was the best, and/or fastest straight 8 ever built by Buick? Does anyone know how fast one went? Could be in any type of race car or full bodied car.
The Old Guy
They are still running Buick Straight eights at Bonneville and a stock bodied sedan went 156 last year. The new records will be available to me next week, and I will check and see who did what.
Oxnard Montalvo
The 248 straight eight was raced at Indy. They used the small engine because it was found to be more reliable than the large one.In 1935 Cliff Berqere drove the Victor Gasket Special with the I8 in a Rigling chassis to a 13th place finish after starting 16th. He completed 196 laps before running out of gas.
radionut98
Back in 1956 When I owned a 41 Buick 3 spd and 2 carbs I had it clockedjust out of curiosity (you know how 20 years old kids are) and I was inthe Navy, It clocked out at 137MPH in the quarter mile run over 4 tries.Smooth smooth ride even at that speed

1937hd45
The Shafer 8 Indy car is restored and doing quite well in Vintage Sports Car Club of America races. It holds all the hillclimb records in the PreWar class.
Matt Harwood
For what it's worth, the '41-42 Buick 320s with dual carbs were the most powerful engines made in America until the early 50s. The '41 Century was widely regarded as the fastest car on the road in stock form until the high-compression OHV V8s started hitting the streets.I'll let you know as soon as I get mine running... Guest
That 41 Buick must have been shot off an aircraft carrier by a steam catapult
Guest Reatta1
I smell a 'Pete' in this anonymous reply. Are you hiding Pete? Those old Buick's just won't die, will they.
