WIRELESS
Hi Everyone, you have helped me in the past & I hope you can help me again. We are giving a program on the history of wireless telegraphy during World War I and I came across this image - I believe it was taken in Belgium, but I wonder what make & year the trucks are? Thank you in advance for any help! Regards, Jim Kreuzer AWA Museum
Craig Gillingham
They are both Daimlers; I can't tell you what year.
Spinneyhill
Probably with Knight sleeve valve engines. Wire wheels and curved front mudguard started ca 1909? White tires = pre ca 1914 car chassis? Gas headlights appeared on 1914 trucks but they had steel wheels; 1913 cars had electric lights? WIRELESS
Craig, Thank you very much for identifying them as Daimlers... that gives me a great place to start. Spinney, Thank you as well for all your info, all those bits point to it as being 1914 or later I guess- pretty early in WWI. This website is a great resource, your members should be proud. - This is great info! Best Regards, Jim Kreuzer
Spinneyhill
8 hours ago, WIRELESS said: 1914 or later I guess I don't think so. Those are gas headlights and sidelights and I think they are on car chassis as well as different models. The far one has a longer bonnet. Dual wheels on the rear too. P.S. I can use the term "bonnet" here because it is a British vehicle! Edited August 4, 2018 by Spinneyhill (see edit history)
nzcarnerd
I guess the far vehicle is a six. I suspect they were built on privately donated chassis.
