6 volt a/c

TL,

I looked at some listings and brochures from Vintage Air.  They list A/C systems for (for example)

1947-53 Chevrolet trucks, but nothing is mentioned that the vehicle had to be converted to 12 volts.

Seems to me that the only thing that would be voltage sensitive would be the fan motor for the interior and

may be the compressor clutch (the voltage needed to lock the clutch to turn the compressor).  I would

call or email them and ask that question.

They made compressors for VWs that were 6 volt. Also, Nash and Packard, but those would be hard to find. Some of the early compressors had no clutch and relied on solenoid valves to bypass the Freon when you didn't want the A/C on. a 6 to 12 volt convertor probably wouldn't supply enough amperage to engage a 12 volt clutch
