Dan Marx
OK, I just acquired some NOS, in the box, Studebaker Erskine pistons. The part number is 112708. The box has the factory label. Any help for application would be greatly appreciated. Also have two additional smaller sizes, perhaps for a 4 cyl. dlmarx at bellsouth dot net. studeq
Those pistons are correct for the 1920s Studebaker Big Six .10 over. They are listed for EP engines after engine #EP17170. I suspect however the pistons will fit all the Big Sixes from 1923-28 but that particular piston weighs 2lbs 8oz whereas the earlier pistons weighed 3lbs 1 oz. The bore on all the Big Sixes from that era was identical. The models they would fit would include the EP, EW, ES, GB and GH. Again at .10 over. Bud Tierney
I'm suffering a little whiplash here...per a 36 catalog Erskine 1927 #50=Cont 8F; 1928-29 #51, 52 to eng #9F 142790=Cont 9F; 1929 #52 after 9F 142790=Cont 9F; 1930 #53=Stude 1930 31/4... Both Erskine section and Cont'l section shows 8F 25/8; 9F 23/4... A 1930 McCord gasket catalog shows Stude Motor 6 , pass 18-28 Big Six models EG,EK.EP; 1927 President, Commander, EW, Bus, Commander GB, Bus BA with a 37/8 x5... That 1930 catalog agrees Erskine to 1930 has the 25/8, 23/4 and 31/4;and shows no Stude 31/4 The 36 catalog doesn't list a Stude 31/4 until "30-31 #53, 54" and 32-33 #55, 56", which sound like "Erskine" models folded into Stude, and 34-36 Dictator 6 and a batch of A models... Now, these old parts catalogs are never complete, and contain many errors/omissions; with that in mind, if the above is correct Erskine pistons should be 25/8, 23/4 or 31/4... studeq
You are confused. Those pistons have nothing to do with an Erskine, they are Studebaker Big Six as I stated. The Studebaker Erskine tag on the box simply means that they were packaged at a time when Studebaker was also making the Erskine car (1927-30)

Dan Marx
F/S Attached are pix of the pistons. I have a complete set (6) of the pistons. 5 are sill in the box. The piston has a 3-7/8 inch diameter and 4-3/4 in. length. 1922-1928 Studebaker (Bushed) Big Six 6 3-7/8 1918-1921 Studebaker Big E.G. INC. 4 & 6 3-7/8 . Not sure which model these fit. These appear to be standard size. I don't see any markings that indicate they are oversize. The measurement was done with a ruler, not a micrometer. Thanks for the help.
