VintageRacingCar
Hello! I d need some help with my Chevy coupe 1940... Front wheels are 5 lug..Rear is 6. Is it possible GM made the 1940 with 5 and 6 lug in the same year? Anyone knows if 1937-38 6 lugs drums can be used on the 40's spindle? I need 6 lug in all four wheels...Can not change to 5 lug Any comment and/or advice, is highly appreciated. regards Fred Edited July 25, 2016 by fkunzendorf (see edit history)
Rusty_OToole
They were all 6 lug. Could someone have changed the front brakes or maybe just the hub to 1949 or newer? They had 5 lugs. gene bryson
Yes they were changed, simple procedure. change the backing plates, by drilling new holes, memory problem here, replace either inside race and bearing or the outer. Been running my 38 pickup modified in that fashion and a 49 sedan complete rear for over 50 years. My father inlaws junkyard furnished 15 in 5 lug wheels. The "U" joint is 1/2 forty nine and 1/2 1938.
