1950 Crosley Farm O Road Restoration and more

Recommended Posts

While the engine is out of the Hotshot I might as well clean it up and detail it while I wait on the clutch plate.  Still have a few things to paint but looking good.

Mission creep has crept into the clutch replacement.  I am now sanding and cleaning the inner fenders and firewall to prepare it for body color paint, if I can find the custom color that my daughter mixed many years ago.

I kept thinking last night that if I painted those areas it would look so much better under the hood.  Now I have to remove more stuff, coil, starter solenoid, wiring harness, etc.  so much for replacing the clutch and get it back on the road.  I am still waiting on the clutch so all is good.

This evening I was able to squirt some paint under the hood of the Hotshot.  Now to get it back together!

The clutch disk came in yesterday so time is wasting!

Had some problems with the clutch install and with it being so hot and other things to do I didn't get much time to work on the Hotshot.  The problem I was having was the clutch was not fully releasing.  After looking things over and diagnosing it I decided to remove one of the clutch fingers and stands.  It was bent slightly and when it was at 12 o'clock on the flywheel, the clutch disk would rub on the stand just enough to cause the clutch to spin.

Not sure when it got bent or if it has been that way forever and the old clutch disk was just a smidge smaller circumference.

The good thing with having tons of spare parts I was able to change it out and now things are good in the Hotshot world.

Today we took the 1949 Crosley Hotshot to the Western PA Region AACA car show.  Beautiful day with lots of cars and family.  Grandson had a great time and got to drive and sleep in the Crosley.  Talked to a lot of people about Crosleys and "no they are not foreign!" and filled them in on a few details about Crosleys.

Got a surprise at the end of the show when they called my name for 3rd place in class, which was very unexpected!!  The car still has greasy finger prints on it from changing the clutch...  As I drove up to get the award the car stalled as I shook the club president's hand and would not restart.  Flooded carb, I think the float is stuck.  Good thing I trailered it to the show!  😂

The Hotshot is among the living again.

I took the top off the carburetor and checked the needle seat, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary but all it takes would be a small speck of dirt or rust to cause problems.  I then took the seat out and promptly... dropped it on the floor.  No chance of seeing if anything was in the seat.  😂  I got a new gasket for the top, cleaned everything up and preceded to put it together when the tiny spring in the needle fell out and onto the floor.  I moved the car forward and luckily found the spring.  Once back together it fired right up and seems to be running good.

I still need to add a filter into the system before I drive it any, but everything seems good.

On another front our car club had it's monthly cruise, a beautiful night and about 25-30 cars throughout the night.

Today I did some wiring in the new building.  I bought some used outside lights last year and finally got one of them up today.  It was the first hole I cut in the building and was hard to do.   😂

I still have one more to put up on the left side of the left garage door, but that will have to wait till I get more conduit.

Finally got time and desire to tear into the hupmobile generator.  Because it was driven off the timing chain, I wasn't sure how to go about getting it off.  I took several pictures and did a lot of markings on the distributor and generator.  Removed three bolts and slid it back some and put two wires through the chain to support it and finished removing the generator.  Now to rind out what is wrong with it.

Also did some paint work on the pedal car, it will be used as a prop in our local theater for the Christmas show.
