Riviera Wire Wheel Covers

I have for sale a set of 4 very nice 1963 4-hole spinner wire wheel covers. The spinner, wheel center and wheel disc are not interchangeable with the 1963 3-hole spinner wire wheel covers. I purchased these from a fellow ROA member soon after I purchased my car. These covers are not perfect and have some dings and scratches that you would expect from 50+ year old wheel covers. That being said they are nice and have a lot going for them. The spinners are very nice and have little or no pitting. They have been disassembled, cleaned and waxed. (more than once) The screws were wire wheeled and clear coated. The flat black portion of the wheel disc on all four covers has been repainted. One of the best things these covers have going for them is that that back side of each cover has no rust or corrosion. This is something that many people selling these covers will try to disguise by painting the backside. These covers are clean. These covers were on my car at the last 2 ROA Conventions. These covers are being sold without the center emblems as I kept them to use on my new set of covers making them usable on several years and models. I am asking $450.00 for the set of 4. This price is $100+ dollars lower than what I paid due to them having no center spinners. Please PM me if interested. Thanks. Bill

Bill,

Do you have a pic of the centers which you removed? Reason that I am asking is because, as you and I have discussed, I believe you have a set of covers which exhibit all the general `64 and up characteristics but have a `63 only center. Conventional wisdom has it that the `63 covers are 3/6 hole drillings and the `64 and up covers are 4/8 hole drillings but I have come across "hybrids" which run contrary to this conventional wisdom. I suspect these hybrid covers were manufactured after the `64 and up changes were made by the manufacturer but for retrofit/replacement on the `63 Riv and would therefore have an all silver tri-shield center emblem. If my suspicions are correct, your covers would have a `64 style center emblem mounting type but an all silver trishield face. This may explain the parts that Ed has described in response to your wanted thread.

I do not have pictures of the center emblems. My covers are the 4/8 configuration. The center emblems have the exact same look as the 64-65 emblems except that they have the tri-shield design with the exact same rubber backing as the 64-65 centers. The attaching screws are 1/4" longer than the spinner attaching screws that are used on the 63 3/6 configuration and are exactly the same screws as the 64-65 spinner screws. Does this help? Let me know. Thanks. Bill

Bill,

What you are describing is the `64 and up center emblem mounting style, specifically the back side of the plastic emblem. The `63 3 hole spinner center emblem has "feet" which index into the spinner assembly and are much different than the `64 and up style. My point is, if your covers have the `64 and up style emblem with an all silver tri-shield then your covers are either a switch in `63 to the 4/8 hole version (conventional wisdom says this is a `64 and up ONLY version) or your covers were manufactured in the `64 and up style for retrofit as a service part for the `63 model year. In either case, contrary to conventional wisdom, it is factory "correct" to have a 4/8 hole style wire cover (along with the noticeably shorter center) with an all silver tri-shield on a `63 Riv.

Is this another `63 model year change?
