Beltfed
The'38 didn't arrive with any vacuum hoses to the wipers. First, I have only one port on manifold for vacuum (just behind the carb). It is taken by the vacuum control for the Columbia rear end. Where do you get vacuum for the wipers when running the Columbia?Second, I have no idea where the vacuum hose runs through the fire wall nor the color of hose (if it is a hose and not metal tubing). Size of hose/tubing?Thanks for the help.
DSpringer
At Peecher's advice I installed a BK-49 manifold spacer - vacuum takeoff so I could use the manifold vacuum port for a PCV valve. $45 from columbiatwospeedparts.com.
Ken/Alabama
This is the correct fitting for the Columbia and wiper vacuum. A short connector hose joins the two pipes and the long pipe goes across the head towards the Columbia shift valve on the steering box. Wiper vacuum comes from the brass compression fitting in the top .
Beltfed
Flatcar, Is the manifold spacer in your picture the same as DSpringer noted in his post (BK-49)? If so, I will order it and retrofit when time permits as my fit up is all wrong. I assume that the fitting in the top of your manifold spacer shown is for the wipers. Correct? Thanks to you both. Ken/Alabama
This fitting screws into the manifold behind the carb. The spacer that DSpringer is referring to fits under the carb and has a vacuum port to operate the Columbia. That's how they done it on the Fords and Mercury but it will work also on the Zephyr but will require longer carb studs.
