JayG
I'm reconditioning the rear axle on my 25 and have it apart. Myers has 2 outer felts and 6 inner felts listed for the rear axle. My question is where do they go? I assume the outer goes on before the wheel hub goes on the axle. The inners have me baffled and I can't find any sectional diagrams that show them. I have 2 rears apart and neither of them had any felts. Anyone that can shed some light on this?? Thanks Jay
30DodgePanel
I would think it's pretty standard (although I haven't personally worked on any yet) that the inners go into a housing in the back of the outer roller bearing. I know I've seen it somewhere online in a photo but I can't find it right now
MikeC5
Hi Jay, the thread below is my experience with replacing the rear seals. Hopefully it helps.http://forums.aaca.org/f143/confusion-rear-axle-seals-25-a-329091.html
JayG
Mike - Thanks for the link. I did pull my axles out tonight and found the inner felts. Now I have to figure out how to remove the metal cover that holds them in. It seems to be a very tight press fit. How did you get yours off? MikeC5
Hi Jay, I don't remember the covers being especially difficult to remove but it was I while ago (the gray matter ain't what it used to be). Sorry.
