55 Roadmaster Ammeter looks great, however…..

Took the gauges out, cleaned them up, reinstalled. Ammeter works until high charge or discharge then needle parks itself at stop + or -. Will also do this rounding a corner! Will free up with a sharp rap of the knuckle, but goes right back. Works fine on straightaways.

Ever heard of this one?

Always sumpin'.

The needle will swing all the way left or right and stick. But will free up with a rap on the glass, function properly for a while and then swing right or left and stick again. This swing is sometimes prompted by a right or left turn. Like a turn and bank indicator on an airplane except it doesn't center itself after the turn is complete. Weird, I found an NOS unit on the big auction site just in case.

So, if you turn right it goes to +, and left, to -... Sorry, I couldn't resist that one! Is the shielding still there: there should be a folded-piece of gasket material between the terminals. Check your connections between the ends, also, make sure your wire's insulation isn't worn away and shorting out onto something. The wires themselves could be bad too--oxidized inside! Is there something inside the gauge itself moving around...

Just a few considerations,
