just finished my 39, wife asked what kind of gas should we put in jt? engine was running when I bought the car, don't know anything about engine, motor runs just fine, no smoke

Real gas with no ethanol works best with better mileage and fewer problems with debris from the old gas tank. There are several posts on this forum about the issues with ethanol in modern gasoline.

I just put in the cheap stuff, along with the recommended amount of CD-2 lead substitute.

Of course my head has never been off, so the valves don't have hardened seats.

I did rebuild the pump with an ethanol resistant diaphram last year, and I put a BIG clear filter in the line back at the tank.

I've been running my pre-war cars on regular gas here, where they "say" it has 10% ethanol in it. It's really like 15% as I found out. It WILL separate from the gas if left sitting for more than a week. I do add some Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas. Seems to work for me. Your local airport sells REAL gas, as planes can't pull over when the ethanol stops the engine up there. Best bet is to also make sure your timing is set correctly.
