Question about fuel tank

I posted another thread regarding MPG with the 248 which led me to another question regarding my fuel tank. (Thanks Bernie)

I've attached the best pictures I can get and I ask your opinion. Does this look like an original gas tank?

I've left a message for the previous owner but I haven't heard back from him. (He may be a snow bird who won't be back to Minnesota for a while).

The fill tube and the connection at the tank just doesn't look 72 years old to me.

I'm also wondering if the exhaust pipe is in the correct location. (bottom photo).

Thanks for the help :)

Wayne,

O.K. so you have a replacement tank, and that's taken care of.

But man-o-man do I see a tail pipe rubbing up against the fuel tank in your last picture ?

You know that's not right.............

I would fix that before she leaves the garage again...............

Even if it is just as close as pictured, I would repipe it at least 8 inches away from the tank, which might be oversized compared to the origional tank.
