Slightly O/T: Reata Winery

Visited the Reata Winery (Reata Wines - Napa winery featuring small lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and cool climate varietals - Reata Winery) near Napa yesterday. Beautiful and very modern winery - only about three years old. It sits on a hill side above Highway 12 - which connects Napas famous Highway 29 to Fairfield, California. The views from the parking lot and tasting room are great - with vines growing in all directions, valley floor below, and San Pablo bay off in the distance. Owners are from Colorado. Apparently they did not want it to be a pretentious/snooty place. So they styled it in a fun rustic Western theme.

We tasted six different wines - three whites and three reds. Our favorite was the 2010 Napa Valley Chardonnay Barrel Select. Magnificent nose and very fruity. It is one of the best chardonnays I've ever tasted.

They also have some on-property bee hives, and sell honey. We tasted four different varieties of the honey - all great. But the 'blackberry' was our favorite. The 'eucalyptus' was a very close second.

Nice thought, but we we drove the Rendezvous. At least still driving a Buick.

We drove by it on friday on our way to Napa, but didn't have time to stop in. Actually I didn't even know it was there, as I usually take a different route. So on the way back home on saturday, just *had* to stop by. :)

What is really needed is a group photo shoot of Reattas in front of this place. If they'd let you park cars on the sidewalk up the center, would be a great picture since it is a very scenic and aesthetically pleasing setting.

Just a suggestion.
