Door weatherstrip question for 1940 Super

I am getting ready to scrape off what's left of my door weatherstrip and replace. I have the new weatherstrip, and it has 2 ridges, one of which is slightly higher than the other. Since my old weatherstrip is shot, I can't tell whether the higher side goes against the door frame or faces outwards towards the body. Anybody know?

Thanks, Dave

The rubber is installed like this. Sorry picture is not very clear. I have been cleaning rubber off of my Roadmaster all summer. It has got to be one of the most boring projects I have ever done. Wash rubber with soapy water and let dry. Use cleaner before I added 3M 8008 adhesive. Let get tacky then installed rubber. I took advice from this forum and installed small sections at a time and allowed to dry over night. I also used pieces of painters tape to hold rubber in place. The one door that I did complete turned out very nice.

Good Luck

I believe that "bsj" is incorrect. Having been in a business that sold this particular item I believe that the part that he has along the upper door flange (left side of photo) is actually the bottom. The wider lower side goes against the upper door flange and the higher side towards the body. When closed ,it pushes over toward the door. The groove makes a channel along the perimeter.

Mr. jpage,

Could you send me a correct installation picture? I would like to know the correct way before I continue. I just follow directions. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Dave,

I did my '40LTD just like bsj's picture and the Steele flyer picture.

Carefully scraped the old rubber off and rubbed the joint with MEK to get the last of the glue off.

I chose to rattle can paint all the door edges with a good black enamel and installed the rubber, in one piece for each door. Just put a SMALL bead of 3M glue down at the bottom of the joint, and drapped a precut rubber over the top first and worked down both sides of each door. I preinstalled the rubber and marked the door and rubber with a piece of tape to mark center. Snipped off each end and closed the door for at least a day.

Just my $ .02
