Fun with a DB transmission...

Had some fun with some guys working on their Dodge Brothers transmission yesterday. I learned a LOT about the units and the way they were assembled. Add the fact that the owners are highly entertaining, and you have the perfect way to spend a morning. Here are some shots of the event...

They replaced the clutch and flywheel (after a shop broke it) and some leaking gaskets. They also turned the rear springs around since they were mounted wrong.

John, it was fun having you and Sherry over giving us support and being wonderful company. Greg and I had a blast. I wish I could say that since we got the transmission installed and everything put back together that it works properly, but it doesn't. I guess we will have to take it apart again and see what we messed up on.

Clutch has been replaced. All new metal plates and lining. The flywheel and bearing replaced. New seals in the transmission.

Problem:

When the clutch pedal is depressed the clutch moves toward the transmission but it does not seem to be separating. The clutch is moving about .17 in but isn't releasing. The clutch also does not retract properly. We do not seem to have any parts left over so we are at a loss. Any ideas?

try calling 602-867-3354 ask to talk to Phil, explain to him the entire situation as you've explained here and he may be able to help over the phone :). He's very knowledgable and will take the time to help, if he can't just ask if he can point you in the right direction.

Good luck T and let us know whatcha find out

Have you tried playing with the adjustment turnbuckle on the pedal linkage? 0.17" sounds a little short but that's just eyeballing it. When the clutch is fully depressed you should be able to separate the lined plates from the fixed plates a little bit with a screw driver.
