1937 Wheel stripes

My 1937-41 is in the shop getting ready for the National. I asked them to paint and stripe the wheels. I sent them 20 years of the "Torque Tube" magazine with the topics earmarked for reference. With the stripe form and spacing as well as the color. They have not found that info. As the car is 1 1/2 hours away I can't look at the ID plate. I believe it is #510 Hampton Gray? The wheels are to be body color. What is the red for striping? Mixing formulas?

Hey Larry, if you want perfect wheel stripes (assuming they're the same as the 39 pattern, two narrow either side of a wide), then you should get a signwriting or graphics outfit to make you some stencils, then spray the carteret red on for a factory look. Since we're not competing with anyone, we just got the stripes cut in vinyl. Looks just like paint.....

Thanks Grant. I forwarded the photos to the shop. I think the wheels that are on the car still have some stripes. But they are 39-?wheels I bought a rough set of 1937 wheels that I had sandblasted and recoated. These are the ones to be repainted.

Hi Larry,

I'm really not sure if 37 wheels had two or three stripes or if they could have had either. I've owned my car since 1975 and I really don't think my wheels have ever been repainted and they have two stripes.

Hi Larry,

The above photo IS CORRECT -- same as on my ORIGINAL 1937 Roadmaster, and appears same as on another '37 Roadmaster I checked as a reference, except that my car (and my reference) is Black with Red Wheels.

Our Buick has been accorded HPOF status, and will likely be considered later this year for HPOF Original.

Larry,

There are only two (2) stripes on each wheel. The shadow, or reflection might have mislead you into thinking there were three, but actually there are only two. Sorry for any confusion, but had to get back with you. Likely the '37 differs from the '39 in Grant's photo.

Best of everything to you -- see you in Shelbyville -- we will have our blue 1934 Buick 34-57 in Class 20C.

Thank you for the clarification Marty. When I zoomed in on your front wheel it looked to me like it had three stripes as well. I was beginning to think different plants might have used different patterns or perhaps a mid year change. Which are both possible I guess.
