BadgerRivFan
...Why do both outside mirrors appear to be from a 1970's era Buick?Buick : Riviera Buick : Riviera | eBaySeems odd to me. What am I missing?
MCHinson
Maybe because it is a 1970's Buick?I have owned several 1979-1985 Rivieras over the years. I am going from memory here, but I think that those are the correct mirrors. I know that the 1979 Mirrors were different from the 1980-1985 Mirrors. From memory, the 1979 mirrors were shaped differently from the later ones and the 1980-85 were all shaped the same, but some were chrome and some were body color. Guest Kinmann
1979 were the last year for the door mounted mirrors. 1980 was the year they changed over to the newer styled mirrors!Great question....The Riview Magazine a few years ago had an article on the 1979 Black on Black Rivi! This looks to be a clean jewel. sosuzguy
1979 shared the same style mirrors that Toronado used from 1979 to 1985. FYI The 1979 S-Types also had a different mirror. Rivieras of any style from 1980 to 1985 used the same style mirrors. Only 1979 is different for Riv.Happy Wednesday!
RivNut
The standard Riv shared the outside chrome mirrors with the Toronado. The S-Type used the GM sport mirrors from the era. Take a look at this evolution page from the ROA's website. The photos show a standard coupe, the flyer at the bottom of the page shows an S-Type.Riviera Owners AssociationWhen I built my Type_R, I had to find the upper door moldings from a '79 so I could mount the sport mirrors.Ed
BadgerRivFan
O.K. - Good info. Just thought all 79 to 85 cars had the same style mirrors. Now I know otherwise...
Guest Kinmann
The Riview magazine covered a story on Harold and Jennie Mecabe's 1979! It's Volume 26, #2 Mar/Apr 2010 for those who care to read. It spefically discusses the 1979's mirrors.Fun little facts!
Guest RivyRob
Also, if you look closely in those pics, go to the pic that has the pass door open, you will see that there is writing at the bottom of the mirror (Images appear larger...)Rob
