Guest HOOIE
Nascars back, YEA. Whouda figgured Ward? That`s cool. What do you all think about Mrs. Robinson? Just thought I`d open a can of worms! Gary.
1937hd45
Shawna Robinson finished 24th in her first Daytona 500. Gary, how did you do in your first Daytona 500?
Guest HOOIE
Whoa 1937, pull in your horns! I`m not bitchin about Mrs. Robinson. I just thought it would be an interesting discussion topic. Hell, anyone who can qualify for any Nascar race, in an unsponsored car no less, let em run. As for where I finished my first Daytona 500, the same place you did. rocketraider
Ward Burton hasn't done too badly for a kid from South Boston VA- decent guy to boot, and hasn't changed a bit. Some of you I'm sure would have trouble understanding his Sooth Booston accent. (I grew up there, so I understand it well- of course I speak it too)
We're 30 miles west of South Boston, and we can hear the racket all the way up here! Hometown hero! rocketraider
Well- NASCAR isn't really about racing anymore. Like most pro sports, it's about personalities and merchandising as much as anything. And some of them deal with it like other pro athletes, it goes to their heads. Not Ward. He's the same as he's been all these years. Give him a shotgun or a fishing pole and he's happy. Used to trap a lot too.
I grew up with Ward's older brother Brian, who still runs the family construction business. Ward gives a lot back to the community- he's in the schools constantly, works with Ducks Unlimited and is a true conservationist. A good guy, and no matter who your favorite driver is, one deserving of a break such as winning Daytona.
Guest HOOIE
Nascar is big money-big business. It`s good that a good guy can still win the "Big one".I wounder how long the sport will stay so popular? Several people I know who hardly missed a race on TV the last several years aren`t watching so many now. Dodge is back for real and thats good. Maybe the time for a steady woman driver is here. Does anyone know how many races Shawna plans to run? Without a major sponsor it would be tough to run many. Do you thing she will have trouble picking up a sponsor, or by being unique, will it be easier to do? We noticed Wal Mart had a banner above something on the pre-race coverage. The girls said Wally World should sponsor Shawna. Think about it, not like our wives need a better reason to shop there, but putting Wal Mart and that little yellow smiley face on the hood of Shawna`s car could be one hack of a PR move.
On the other hand if Mark Martin has balls enough to put Viagra lettering all over his car, all the femine products we see on tv could be potential sponsors too. How about a Victoria`s Secret girl down the side of the car?
Talkin about the good ole boys syndrome, if you can`t get a drafting partner in the restrictor plate races, you`re allmost SOL. Just ask Jeff Gordon. Seems nobody wants to go with him even if he is fast.
How about Jeff Green hanging on to that long skid? He may be somebody to watch. DugsSin
My sons favorite driver is WB. First thing he noticed about Ward was "How he talks like the people we see when we go on vacation, I like him" I do too, doesn't seem so full of himself like some of the others.
Shawna has paid her dues and I would like to see her do well but that "good old boy" syndrome will hang her out to dry every chance they can.
I've enjoyed WC racing for many years but seem to be getting tired of it for some reason.
Doug BCA#33850
DugsSin
The only one who stayed with J.Gordon was his hired gun J.Johnson. He found out you don't go to the big show and smoke the Ol Boys in qualifying and expect to run with em in the race. But that is racing.
Now wouldn't that be something to have Victoria Secret girls hanging around in the pits sorta like the Hooters girls help out in the drags. No Viagra needed.
Doug
novaman
rocketraider~ I heard that Ward's southern drawl that he has and the rest of his family doesn't came from growing up on the southside of the house. Glad to seem him win.
