Dauphinee
I have a question. 1936 pontiac Deluxe 8 is the car.Right under the carb is the exhaust flange setup. There looks like a flapper lever that opens and closes. And a spring attached to it.Does anyone have a picture of how the spring is supposed to attach??Also what is the flapper for?? Ben Bruce aka First Born
Dauphinee, the flapper is designed to be in the closed position when the engine is cold, directing exaust gas up beneath the carb to preheat the incoming mixture to help with fuel ignition until the engine is warmed up. Rusty_OToole
The spring is bimetallic. It holds the valve closed when cold, then relaxes and lets the valve open when hot. This should tell you how to hook it up.
