RivVrgn
Hey guys, quick question. I need to replace the heatshield under my carter on my 65. The one I removed is made to mirror the gasket, same shape and cutouts. The ones I have seen offered around ( CARS. ) just cover the perimeter of the carb. Will these work and what about the center of the carb sealing? Does anyone know if someone makes a complete one that covers the entire mating surface? If not I can probably get one made. Would a thicker one be better seeing as mine was burned through? thanks, Joey
RivNut
I would have recommended Allstate Carb and Fuel Injection in NY, but their new website is totally impossible to navigate. I've bought from them before and they're knowledgable (not website savvy though) and their prices are good. This is what I found doing a Google search.Ed63-65 Corvette BAFFLE PLATE - 300hp AFB carburetor, (stainless steel) Chicago Corvette
Guest nickdaytona
I agree. Allstate are excellent and their pricing is great. I rebuilt my 32/36 weber on the BMW for $26.
Guest Silverghost
Mr. Gasket Co. makes an aftermarket Carter AFB/AVS heat shield & gasket set with several stainless steel plates ! They also sell a similar cheaper aluminum version ! Check any local speed-shop , Jegs, Summit, etc .

carbking
Carter alone made 180 different stainless steel plates for different applications!!!!I suspect that the car manufacturers made others.Best to stay away from a "generic" plate.I would suggest either a Buick specialist (Mr. Faso enjoys an excellent reputation) or a carburetor specialist. If the correct plate is not available; it may be fabricated. Most of the plates were stainless from 0.025~0.035 inch. When fabricating a plate, use the outside dimensions for the original (NOT A GENERIC!) mounting gasket; and for inside, drill ONLY the 4 bolt holes and the holes for the air/fuel.Since the thin stainless will deform, we have found it useful to bolt a piece of stainless plate between two pieces of 3/8 inch plywood, draw the desired design on the plywood and cut stainless and plywood together. The plywood will prevent the stainless from deforming.Jon.
