Caballero2
I have never removed the engine oil sump pan before. Do I have to drop the tie rods? If so, can I get away with just droping the Idler arm/bracket? I have a NOS vacuum pump and a rebuilt oil pump so would like to make this upgrade. Thanks, Dan'57 - 76C'57 - 56R
1957buickjim
Dan, on my vehicle, it looks like all I have to do is remove the cross-over pipe. I would think that you would be able to service the oil pan for removal without having to disconnect the suspension / steering components. That would make for alot of work for re-alignment etc. It looks like it can be done from below. I hope this helps. Jim
Guest kaycee
Hi, You probably just have to remove the crossover pipe, and you'll probably have to turn the crankshaft if one of the throws are in the way. kaycee
Caballero2
Thanks for the replys, I will let you know what comes about. I have decided to leave as is for a while and set up an accurate gage and monitor the pressure for a while.Dan
Smartin
I did this in a 60, but I don't remember how closely they resemble the 57/58 frame at that point,....But I had to raise the engine a couple inches and unbolt the idler arm from the frame so the centerlink/tie rods would drop low enough.
