Is it a 1951 or 1952 or 1953 Chrysler?

I just purchased a 1952 Chrysler Imperial.

Here is my question.

The title shows Vehicle ID C52856542

The tag on the firewall has the following information.

Number 1731536

Model 56

Body 4359

Paint 79

Trim 71

TR 5

RA 1

HR1

What do I have??????

I finally just woke up and realized there is a tag on the drivers door frame.

It has Vehicle number 7762677.

From another site I found the following.

1952 Custom Imperial V8 (C-54) 7753601-7763596

So that makes it a Custom Imperial V8 (C-54) which is what I thought it is.

How do I interpet the information on the firewall tag???

Got a photo? Might be easier to tell what you have that way. I have been looking through numbers, but cannot find your car's number in my paper work.

My dog eared Motor's Manual (1954 edition) identifies the Chrysler C52 as a 1951 or 1952 New Yorker. The 51 and 52 Chryslers were practically identical. I know of one way to tell the New Yorkers apart at a glance. The tail light and back up light are separate on the 51, together on the 52.

The 53 was completely different, similar in appearance but no body parts interchange. It is also quite a bit shorter, on a 7 inch shorter wheelbase. The 49-52 body has the rear fender completely behind the rear door, on the 53 the front part of the fender is on the door.

If you want the lowdown on every Imperial ever made, here is the place to find it.

:confused:Not sure, but if the title shows a differant number than the vech., I think I would worry more about registration problems. If the car is real nice is someone going to show up with a correct title and clame it? This has happened.

You have a 1952 Imperial. Serial numbers were from 7753601 to 7763596. The titles from this period used the motor number. Motor numbers for 1952 Imperial were from C52-8-1001 through C52-8-59631. The serial number is in the correct range for the title you have. Check the motor number, stamped on the motor to verify that you have the correct title for the car.

If the motor was changed and all the paper work done, the title would have the original motor number followed by a / and then the replacement motor number. This process varried by state.
