Ground wire to ash tray what does it ground & where does it go from the ash tray? I got books but they sure are hard to understand. (wiring diagrams) thanks Tom-Ala

To the cigar lighter or the lamp? I'm not sure, but I'd bet that chances are they ground through the chassis.

I have a few pages of my service manual here at work. I do not see a ground for the ash tray. Is it the ground for the light in the ash tray or a ground for the cigarette lighter? Either way if you look at Page 8A Index 1 of Section 8 of the service manual cigar lighters are on page 112-6 and varous other grounds are within the pages of 14-0 to 14-4 Hope that at least points you in the right direction.

I agree with RivNut. The lighter has one "hot" wire and it grounds through the chassis.

It is a black ground wire connected to the ash trey housing with a screw but where it goes I am trying to find out & what does it ground? thanks a lot Tom-Ala

I could be wrong, but It sounds to me like perhaps someone added some aftermarket accessory, (maybe a CB Radio) in the past and when it was removed they left part of the ground wire that was added for it?

Could it be a fiber optic cable for lighting?
