Dwight Romberger
Hi All,I am getting ready to paint my 1930 model 47. In the BCA judging manual on page 39 it says the belt molding, window reveals and inset panels were painted black on my car (Traverse blue deep). What is a inset panel?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Dwight Edited March 30, 2010 by Dwight Romberger spelling! (see edit history)
jscheib
Dwight,I hope someone can answer you. It is interesting that the Inset Panels are only mentioned from 1926-1931. 1932 only mentions the Window Insets.I looked at some of the B&W photos in the books and it is hard to tell. Maybe looking for color photos of the older cars on the web will help.John
bubba
You got me on this one also but the only thing I can think might be it is only on a 1929 Buick. Under the windows in a sedan there is an inset panel that is framed like a picture frame by the belt molding below and the window molding above. It is in a contrasting color so that it is very much in view. Look at any 29 sedan painted correctly and you will see it. it's gone in 1930 which is the same body as 1931. If that's not it then I'm stumped.
unimogjohn
I have a 1928, model 29 Town Brougham. It still has it original paint. You can clearly see the black and harbor blue. However, I have no idea if the 1929s are different. Here are the pics. Hope that they help.
Mark Shaw
My guess is that the inset panels are shown here in body color around the windows and belt line of my son's 29 Buick. I chose not to use a third color when this car was painted, but the original colors were black and cenosure blue with a cream belt line inset color. Dwight Romberger
Hi all,First: This is not a picture of my car.Second: Thank you all for your guidance. With the information I received from you and the BCA Judging handbook (p. 39) this photo appears to be the correct way to paint my 1930 model 47. Does anyone see any problems? Thanks,Dwight
