Guest Buick Bonery
If anyone has a 63-65 steering column which is suitable for parting out, do you have a bearing, which is just above the rag joint? If so, Clive Davis at 403/286-8886 needs one. I don't want to tear apart a good column just for one part.
Jim Cannon
Is the bearing the same in tilt and straight columns?
Guest Buick Bonery
He told me that I could get it from any 63, so I assume it doesn't matter. I think he is looking for the white plastic piece.
Guest Buick Bonery
Did anyone follow through on this?
tim63riv
BB,I checked a couple of tilt columns that I have in the garage and none of them seem to have a lower bearing! I wonder if the fact that they bolt the rag joint directly to the steering gear that the lower bearing really wouldn't be doing anything? Just some thoughts!Tim
Guest Buick Bonery
I'm wondering if he means the white plastic piece that finishes the upper part of the column, but doesn't do much. He told me that it is not a ball bearing.
Guest REX STALLION
I looked at a spare steering column that I have, it has a plastic do-nut of some description but is in 2 pieces. Did it come as a single do-nut ? Regardless, it`s available such as it is.
TexRiv_63
I also have two spare columns and neither has a lower bearing, I think they used an insulator to keep engine heat from travelling up the column but no actual bearing.
