Dwight Romberger
Hi All,Other than the steering wheel on the "wrong" side, is there any difference mechanically between a 1930 McLaughlin and and American Buick? Thanks,Dwight
unimogjohn
Dwight, if your steering is on the right side, then you have an export model. Everything is the same except that you will have some different levers, etc for the brakes, throttle, advance, and of course the steering. All the body, engine, etc are the same and will interchange. McLaughlin did upgrade some of their interiors and actually used older model Buick parts in their newer McLaughlin Buick. The factory also used a few unique parts in the interior to make them more upscale, for example, the wood dash of my 23.
jbbuick22
John, The steering wheel on your 23 is also an upgrade, it is from the Sport tourings of 1922 and 1923, only the sport touring had the walnut wheel with the small alum spider. Guest mclbuick2002
Dwight,1930 Canadian Buicks were Mclaughlin Buicks not Mclaughlins. Like the US Buicks, other than export to some British Commonwealth they changed to left drive in 1914.Mclaughlin Buick did not as common practise use older model model parts in new models. However, if they had an extra NOS 1929 starter they may have used it in a new 1930.Some parts , such as, a 1929 fuel pump would not fit on a 1930 block.Other than trim , such as , the badge bar that states Mclaughlin Buick Canada most parts are the same. The major 1930 mechanical difference I have found is the use of a DOLE on the Mclaughlin Buick. This is a hand pump on left side of dash . This pump takes gasoline from intake of fuel pump , vaporizes and injects into 3 points on intake manifold.A Mclaughlin Buick can sit for months and with the Dole will fire on first turn of the crankshaft.Stan1915 Mclaughlin C251930 Mclaughlin Buick 30-471930 Mclaughlin Buick 30-611935 Mclaughlin Buick 44991936 Mclaughlin Buick 4499
