platt-deutsch
What is proper torque for the headbolts? I am guessing 65 to 70 ft/lb. I torqued the Rod bolts to 45 and then tightned them just enuf so I could get the cotter pins on the castle nuts.Just about back toghether.. Took a month of free time to overhaul it and I put Oil Scraper rings and oil rings in it. Thanks
Guest imouttahere
Neither the DB instruction manual nor the "Mechanics' Instruction Manual" gives a torque figure for the head bolts. Both just say to tighten them until they are "very tight".
gboy
I learned the hard way not to torque more than 55Lb The head bolts are soft bolts and will stretch when tightened too much. I did this in my victory six. Dorman has repacement studs with same dimensions, these are hard studs and you don't have to worry about over tighting. Find some one in your area and take an old stud to match.

Manuel
Hi Platt,There was a torque specs and tightening sequence chart for older vehicles posted recently here on the Chrysler/Mopar forum. {3 Sept 08}Under the heading "1930 66 head torque specs".A handy thing to keep as a future reference.Manuel in Oz
nearchoclatetown
I think EVERY head bolt diagram I've ever seen can be described as starting with the center bolt and working in a clockwise direction to the outside diameter, regardless of head shape or number of bolts. I was told to torque my head bolts to 45-50. I used B-7 threaded rod to make new head studs. B-7 is chrome moly, very strong, and can be bought from McMaster-Carr in 6 feet lengths.
