Anyone heard about the black '90 with red interior in Raleigh, N.C.? I just bought it.... (Commitment papers being drawn.)
Question for Barney: Says red interior; photo sure looks red, not burgundy. Any of 'em come that way?
Jerry

He is single-handidly cornering the convertible market, there-by increasing the value and making each progressive purchase more expensive for himself.
I guess that I'll have to wait until he wants to sell so I can purchase mine at a reasonable cost.

My Reattas and I reside in north Orange County. There's more room for storage now that my wife has taken her Range Rover and left me, shaking her head as she departed.
Fortunately, one is being picked up next week, and it should be at least a couple more weeks before the black/red arrives from North Carolina.
I just happen to like the cars, even though I'm much too tall to fit comfortably. I've been fortunate to find several very good ones at reasonable prices.
My routine is (if you're still awake at this point) is:
1. Complete check-over by my mechanic, and do what's necessary to make it safe.
2. Brake flush and new accumulator.
3. Rebuild am/fm/cassette/cd.
4. Sheepskins (unless it's a 16-way seat)and matching dash cover.
5. Detailing.
6. Add up all the costs, tack on a couple bucks, and list it.
Every one I've listed has sold within two weeks, and every new owner has been a happy one.
Jerry

Planning on looking at it this weekend -- but it has a big problem: salvage title! Gotta find out what the damage was. California is tough on totaled cars; used to have to drive a spike through the door jam. Stay tuned.
Jerry

Padgett, are yours custom-made? What happens when the thigh-support section moves forward from the seat? If you put a one-piece sheepskin on, and it fits snugly, there's no room for the three or so inches that suddenly appear. Elastic sheepskins?
Jerry

Bought custom fit lowbacks (headrests sit on top) in 1" thick & deep blue to match interior. Seems somewhat elastic since have no problem moving thigh rest to comfortable position (have not tried full out but 3" no problem.
Suspect may be part of headroom lack problem though.
Must admit I have known quite a few "single model" collectors and have never understood that. All of my cars are different and are specific to different nitches.
Would not mind a convertible but think I would like something smaller and with a hand top like the FIAT 124 Spyder we had 20 yar ago. Basic but with roll up windows. May convert the Fiero if can find one of the kits reasonable.
[ 05-04-2002: Message edited by: padgett ]

Gotta pass on the Pasadena convertible. Talked at length with a DMV title specialist, and she says there's no way to erase the salvage designation in California. She says many salvaged cars are taken to Louisiana, where they can be retitled. Because of this, California dealers always run a VIN on any potential trade-in with Louisiana papers.
Also, I find it hard to accept that a minor rear-ender (with no quarter-panel or unibody damage) would result in a Reatta convertible being totaled. My Maui blue was tapped in the rear recently. Just scratches and scuffs, plus loosening the impact strip. Other driver had USAA insurance, which inspected and said $1000 damage; my body shop found a complete rear assembly (bumper, impact strip, bumper guards, lower fairing, etc.) from Speedway for $500 plus shipping. Another $500 for R&R, painting, etc.
Here in California, a clean title is a must.
Jerry
