DennyZ
I'm tring to match the '41 Grove Green Metallic for my Packard Clipper. The old DuPont code is useless for matching modern colors and we can't get a reliable scan (technology sometimes is not what its cracked up to be). Does anyone know of a modern paint code for this color? I want it to be as close to the original as I can get.
Guest Moepar
Try posting this on the Packard forum - you may get a better response.

Rusty_OToole
Have you asked your local paint dealer? They can match colors this old or older by the name or by the number.Any good paint supplier should be able to do this. Even ones that were not in business when your car was made.Your local paint dealer will probably have to contact the head office to get the formula and this can take a day or 2. But once they have the formula they can mix any amount and any type of paint you want.
FomocoService
Rusty has a good point. For instance my PPG Jobber can call the main color library in Ohio and get the formula. I had to do this the other day on some paint for a '37 Oldsmobile. Even an old IM number will work.My old Ditzler(PPG) book lists Grove Green as DAL-40113. This is for Lacquer.. but any good paint store can cross reference this number. Esp. a PPG jobber.
Earl B.
Denny, In 1941 Packard used DuPont paint. If you will contact Auto-Ref.Color@usa.dupont.com and tell them you want the modern equivalent for Grove Green Metalic 202-34529 they will give you the closest thing they now make to that color. Good luck with the paint job, B
DennyZ
Maybe I need a different jobber. Mine said he couldn't or didn't know how to locate a good match for the codes I had (the same ones you all suggested). 31Ford, who is your jobber? (I'm in Ohio too)
FomocoService
I use a local company known as C.A.R.S. or Central Auto Refinishing Supply. My local Dupont/Spies Hecker jobber isn't worth a darn either. They wouldn't look up numbers for me or even place a call to Dupont's Library. I cancelled my account with them and haven't been back.

Earl B.
Denny, I wrote to DuPont for you and this is their reply.. Good luck with your paint job, B<span style="color: #3333FF">Thank you for your interest in DuPont Performance Coatings. The color is not in a current DuPont quality so the following formulas are close match possibles. As you probably know that the metallic colors back then were almost pearl like. The metallic colors look like solid colors at first glance then you see the very fine aluminum in the color. I have provided you with a metallic close match possible and a solid close match possible. In regard to the metallic close match possible you will probably have to take some metallic out to get a good match. In regard to the solid close match possible you will need to add some fine aluminum metallic to get a good close match. As with all close match possibles please test before spraying. West Peterson
I've just recently heard about "removing" metallic front paints, and I saw first-hand at Hershey this year what it looks like when its done. It looks fantastic, and authentic. You really had to squint and look closely to see the metallic, just like the original. If you would like some more information on the process, let me know and I'll contact the person that did it.
