  1. For sale is a ‘54 Packard Clipper Deluxe. This may be one of the nicest '54 Clippers you're going to find anywhere.... and it's a great cruiser!! It has 59K miles on the odometer. It was purchased new by a dairy farmer who died in 1960. Upon his death, it sat for many years in a garage because his widow didn't drive. Upon her death, it was auctioned off at her estate sale, and purchased by two Ohio Highway Patrolmen. They drove the car very little also, mostly in local parades. In 1999 they decided to sell the car because of storage issues. It has always been stored inside, apparently in the dry because the original condition remains excellent. The seats were covered with some sort of seat covers, and when we removed them, the original seats underneath were like new. I bought the car to drive on antique car tours, so we went through the car's systems to make sure it would be dependable. We re-cored the radiator and rebuilt the water pump right away. The brakes were gone through and leaky cylinders were replaced and new wheel bearings installed. Everything else was given regular maintenance. It has a set of new wide white radial tires and a new exhaust system. The radials really improve the handling of the car. The chrome and stainless was either re-chromed or polished and is now in great shape except for a scratch on the front bumper. The most dramatic change we made on the car was the repaint. Originally the car was black. I don't like black! So a professional body man ground the old paint off, even though most of it was in good shape. Some minor body work was completed on the rear quarters where some rust was evident. He fabricated new panels, welded them in and ground them smooth. No body filler was used on this car. Other than that, the body was straight as an arrow--as far as I know, it had never been involved in any accidents. The Matador Maroon repaint really gives this car a classy look, I think. It has a standard 3-speed transmission, so it has avoided any problems that the Ultramatic has given many Packard owners. We believe this to be a late '54 Deluxe because it features many trim items usually associated with the Super models (hood pelican, stainless corners above the front bumper). Packard liked to use up parts before model change-over. It is a radio delete model--I don't think the old farmer thought he needed a radio! We did add the fender skirts and the full wheel covers, things that this car screams for! The thing I love about this car is that it will run all day and stay as cool as a cucumber. The only thing that isn't working currently is the speedometer. The cable started making noises this summer so I unhooked it, and just bought a nos cable on eBay but haven‘t hooked it up yet. This car runs so smoothly that I've been tempted to drop the engine out of it and put it in the Mayfair we also own--which brings me to the reason I'm selling the Clipper. When we bought the '54, I was looking for a Mayfair, but couldn't find one at the time that I thought we could afford. When we found this great Clipper, we gave up on the Mayfair idea and proceeded with the '54. Then a '52 Mayfair fell into my lap and we had to buy it too. We did a cosmetic restoration on the '52 and now drive it on our post war car tours. The '54 sits in our garage most of the time. To finance a restoration of a ’41 Clipper, reluctantly the '54 must go! We had our fun with it but its time to move on. I ’m asking $11,900 and believe it's worth that much because of its originality but I will entertain a realistic offer before I list it on eBay. You really have to hear it run to fully appreciate it. I live midway between Fort Wayne, IN and Toledo, OH near Defiance, Ohio. I'm home most evenings if you would want to talk cars. (419-653-4790) Email me at dazachrich@henry-net.com for photos
  2. I need a right side rocker molding (aprox. 92+ inches), a pair of bumper guards and a couple of door handle (window) escutcheons for my '41 Clipper. Do you have a pair of good grilles (the side ones)that would be good for a driver without replating? I also want to have spare parts for touring and could use; water pump, generator, starter and ??? Can you help?
  3. I need a rocker molding strip (92+ inches) and a pair of bumper guards for my '41 Clipper. They would be the same as on your '47 if they will not be needed for the rod...Let me know if those parts are available. Thanks.
  4. I've got my '41 Packard Clipper project on a "blue tarp" currently to protect my Rustoleum epoxy. Seems to be working pretty well! It is a little slippery...
  5. Did you ever have to cut a curious cat out of your fan belt? Put the shields back on!
  6. Thanks diz, I'll try what you suggest and let you know if it worked...
  7. I have a dash problem too. My '41 Packard Clipper's dash is also metal with the original woodgrain painted onto it which is nice and bright. However, there seems to be some sort of a varnish coating on it which has become "bumpy". ie: it has a sort of a rough clear coating on it. How can that be safely removed? Mild cleaners won't touch it.
  8. Just today I drove my "new" '41 Packard Clipper that I'm working on, to a car dealership to obtain an "out of state" inspection so I could title it in Ohio (bought in in Indiana). I local guy came running up to get a better look at what I had done so far in restoring the beast, and he said, "Wow, look at those lines...that would make a great hot rod!..." Why do these fools think that rodding a classic is an improvement on prefection???
  9. "tigwelder" was parting out a '28 Pontiac 4-door. His name, email and phone is:jerry [thoennes4@aol.com ]309-261-3510
  10. Wanted to buy. A good set of bumper guards for a '41-'47 Packard Clipper. Prefer NOS.
  11. I know, I know, I've heard it before, but I think this great loking car needs a dressed-up wheel to really set it off. Thanks for the tip. I've bought tires from those folks before, but didn't see the 700's on their website. I looked again and found them posted with the "new products". $209 each for the 3 1/2 in white wall.
  12. 21-ML-105869-ML-<br /><br />Set to the Packard boys. They deal with this all of the time! Wayne
  13. I want to install wide white radials on my '41 Packard Clipper and I'm somewhat perplexed as to what size to order. The original tires were 7.00 X 15. The modern P225/75R15's seem to be the correct height, but are a lot wider. Are there any WWR's on the market that would match the old size better?
  14. I can't believe that stuff would hold up--even at 100 feet! The oil in the tires will bleed through and turn it yellow--if it doesn't peal off first!
  15. 31Ford, I'd like to give C.A.R.S. a call. Do you have their number?
  16. Maybe I need a different jobber. Mine said he couldn't or didn't know how to locate a good match for the codes I had (the same ones you all suggested). 31Ford, who is your jobber? (I'm in Ohio too)
  17. I'm tring to match the '41 Grove Green Metallic for my Packard Clipper. The old DuPont code is useless for matching modern colors and we can't get a reliable scan (technology sometimes is not what its cracked up to be). Does anyone know of a modern paint code for this color? I want it to be as close to the original as I can get.
  18. I'm selling a very nice original '54 Packard Clipper Deluxe four door sedan. It had a professional Matidor Maroon repaint in 1999 and has been on tour since. It has perfect original interior and a very smooth and cool running 327ci straight eight. The three speed tranny is trouble free. The first $10,000 (firm) takes it home. email for photos at: dazachrich@henry-net.com or call 419-653-4790 (Ohio) to chat.
  19. So, since Hudson was merged into American Motors which later merged into Chrysler, by that definition, Hudsons would NOT be orphans either!
  20. I also emailed directly but got no response. I have a '27 Pontiac with interchangeable parts with the '28 and am interested if it is being parted out...
  21. If anyone is parting out or have extra Packard Clipper parts,'41-'46, I'd like to talk! I'm restoring a '41 now and need a few things.....
