simonmeridew,
It was a few years ago. You should check Bob's online catalog for current costs. It wasn't bad though as I recall.

Bob's Automobilia offers rebuilding services of the gauges. I exchanged mine and got a nice new tube and everything back along with a beautifully refaced gauge too!!

Mike,
We just had our National Meet in Co Spring. The host chapter and chapter closest to you is the Pike's Peak Chapter. For their info go here BCA - Regions
I am certain there are many members in CO Springs, but they may or may not be on the forum. Look forward to having you in the club!

Michael,
I checked my shop and parts manuals and they proved inconclusive as to the exact bolt count. Based on the cut away photos 24 certainly appears to be in the ball park. Also I did see what appears to be a horizontal (parallel to ground) timing chain cover bolt into the oil pan, but again it is difficult to determine from the cut away photo. Unfortunately my 30-61 located up in NY at the moment and I cant verify on that either. So in summary I can only concur with Don in his recommendations.

Christian,
Now that Harry posted the picture, I remembered why they were so easy to remove. I forgot I have the stud remover he pictured. I bought mine from a local MAC Tools friend I know. You may be able to rent one from a local auto parts store too.
Also for bolts if you can't find the size and grade you need locally. I have had good success with Bolt Depot - Nuts and Bolts, Screws and Fasteners online, but it doesn't look like they ship internationally. Maybe there are similar websites that do or are located in Europe. Just wanted to pass on the idea.
-
Christian,
I would say there is not a trick or magic specific to the engine for these bolts. As I recall on my 38 320 they came out relatively easily you just need to get leverage on the stud. Have you tried locking to nuts against each other on the stud to act as a bolt head of sorts so you can apply more leverage to the stud.
I'm sure some of the other crafty veterans here have some stud removal tricks, but there is nothing special about these studs related to the engine.
As for drilling them out I am not aware of reproduction being made. You could probably source some used ones from Dave Tachney in MN however. I also suppose you could have the machine shop fabricate new ones using a long bolt and cutting off the head and threading that end. I personally would want to have replacements before I drilled (and therefore destroyed) my originals.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I'm 30. I'm BCA's National Vice President and an AACA life member. I have two pre-war cars.
Seems like youth is involved in old cars to me!

AACA Members and Auto Enthusiast
I am pleased to announce that the Buick Club of America has approved a new South Florida Chapter of the BCA. The BCA South Florida chapter will cover Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties in South Florida. This major metropolitan area has not been covered by a BCA chapter and hopefully with this new chapter we will see a major growth in BCA membership in this area.
For more information on this chapter contact me, Brian DePouli . I am acting chapter director until a permanent chapter director is selected by the membership at the upcoming first meeting. We welcome any non-BCA members at the first meeting especially if you are interested in the joining.
The following was sent to all BCA members who expressed interest in becoming a member of this new chapter:
The first meeting of the new South Florida chapter of the Buick Club of America will be
November 1st 2009 at 11AM at Dauer Museum of Classic Cars in Sunrise, FL<o></o>
The goals of the meeting are listed below.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.<!--[endif]-->Determine chapter name if desired to be something other than “South Florida Chapter”
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2.<!--[endif]-->Elect officers - we have four members who have expressed interest in being an officer, but any interested party can speak up at the meeting.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3.<!--[endif]-->Approve or modify and approve provided chapter bylaws
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4.<!--[endif]-->Determine when and where regular meetings will be held.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5.<!--[endif]-->Determine a newsletter editor, newsletter name and format for newsletter (emailed, mailed, posted on website).
<!--[if !supportLists]-->6.<!--[endif]-->Determine chapter dues
<!--[if !supportLists]-->7.<!--[endif]-->Plan an initial activity
I am really excited about the possibilities for this chapter and hope that you will all participate as much as your schedule allows. Thank you all again for being founding members and I look forward to seeing you all real soon.

Just a reminder the first meeting is this Sunday, Nov 1st.

The 37 38 Buick club is NOT up and running It 's very DEAD. However the two things above have replaced it. New people, new clubs not affiliated with the old club.

It is different. The 36-38 club produced a quarterly magazine and has 125+ members and has no website.
The 37/38 website is just a website with a forum that's all.
I am a member of both the 36-38 club and the 37/38 forum both have their good things.

The series number is on a tag on the frame. It's on the passenger side of the frame at the cowl/firewall where the body bolts to the frame. Some times they are covered under years of road grime so you may need a wire brush to clean it off. Also there should also be a aluminum looking tag on the fire wall with numbers on it which will identify the year, series, colors etc. These are all too often missing however. Also located on the passenger side mid-way up the firewall. Oh and my 38 had the serial number stamped in the passenger frame rail just behind the axle hump but it required removing the body to find it.
There are typically ways to title a car without having a title. Here in NC a bond has to be place for the appraised value of the car, but other than that there is not much too it. (that being said the rest of the title process here in NC is a pain). I am sure if you check the WV DMV website there is some info on it. I am sure it is not a big deal.
Best of luck send us some photos!!

It is considered in the Great Lakes Region as far as the BCA is concerned, though I agree it is certainly NE as far as the rest of the world is concerned.
-
-
Did you know
That come 2011 it will have been 13 years since we have been to the NE Region for a National
Also the BCA National has been in the
Great Lakes Region 19 times (that's over 50%), last time 1 year ago
Heartland Region 6 times, last time 3 years ago and have the next meet
Four Corners Region 2 times, most recently this year
South Central two times, last time 5 years ago
Southeast 3 times, last time 15 years ago
Northeast twice, last time 11 years ago
Golden West twice, last time 18 years ago
Mid Atlantic once, last time 9 years ago
Northwest once, last time 2 years ago
Here is the list of National Locations (it doesn't have the Region on it I just figured it real quick, I hope I didn't make any mistakes)
-
Either way you should join the 36-38 Division of the Buick Club of America. It s a great source for parts and information on all three years of cars.
-
It was "Bad Boys 2" actually. There is a really cool website that you can look up a cars in movies. IMCDb.org: Home page
Here is the link for that sites Bad Boys II cars. IMCDb.org: "Bad Boys II, 2003": cars, bikes, trucks and other vehicles
As far as it selling again I couldn't find anything on the web about it in a quick search.

That's the California Capital Chapter....great chapter!!
Hopefully they get hooked up together.
-
Where is Jared located, hopefully there is a strong chapter that can help him with his restoration and in return will be glad to have his youth in it. If he is anywhere near Charlotte, NC we'd be glad to have him in the Carolina Chapter!!
-
Well here are a positive things that are happening.
1. Chapter membership drive. Each chapter director received a letter detailing a chapter membership drive program and an incentive to the chapter who attracts the most new members to the BCA.
2. A new chapter approved in a major metropolitan area - South FL -see this link for details http://forums.aaca.org/f115/new-bca-chapter-south-florida-270436.html#post694183
3. Creating a list of best practice for attracting new members - I have slowly been contacting each chapter director via phone and discussing their chapter and how they attract membership. I am compiling this info and will be sending it back out to the chapter directors. Our local leaders in our chapters do a great job and have great ideas that need to be shared across the whole club. I have talked to all but one chapter directors in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Regions and will start making my way west. My goal is to complete this by the end of my first year on the BOD.
4. Working with the North Jersey Chapter to restrengthen this chapter which has fallen on hard times. Like South FL this is a major metropolitan area that we need a strong chapter in to attract more members.
So those are some things being done to help the cause!

I am pleased to announce that the BCA Board of Directors has approved the new South Florida Chapter of the BCA. The South Florida chapter will cover Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties in South Florida. This major metropolitan area has not been covered by a chapter and hopefully with this new chapter we will see a major growth in BCA membership in this area.
It may be surprising to known that we have more BCA members in the Sarasota FL area than in the Miami, Ft Lauderdale area which has by far more population. This is most likely due to the fact that the Gulf Coast Chapter (Sarasota) does a tremendous job with great events that attract and retain membership both at the chapter and national level. We hope the South Florida Chapter accomplishes this as well.
For more information on this chapter contact me, Brian DePouli . I am acting chapter director until a permanent chapter director is selected by the membership at the upcoming first meeting.

Chuck,
It was good to see you up there. Congrats on getting your senior!

About 4 years ago I paid $100 for a rear 1938 Roadmaster bumper in poor to fair condition. Hope that helps.
