To add to Thriller's point I am curious what would make the BCA worth $50 value to you. The Bugle has X value to you. What would make up the difference between $50 and X.

Some possible examples I could see would be

1. A discount to other industry publications (Hemmings or whatever)

2. A voucher for Y amount of free merchandise (I believe the BDE does something like this)

3. A one time use discount coupon to NAPA or maybe Bob's or CARS or YearOne, etc

4. It could be non-monetary as many have said access to friends and sources of information to repair you car.

5. It could be more technical articles in the Bugle or in reverse less technical and more of something else.

6. It could be online access to the Bugle

I'm curious so let's have a healthy discussion on that line what would make up the difference in your perceived value of the BCA and the $50 cost of the BCA. Perhaps some ideas can be implemented easily with minimal cost to the BCA and everyone wins. I look forward to the hearing the ideas presented.

As far a a local chapter we have a lost of chapters there as well. As far as Baltimore goes we have a couple options for you. B.O.O.M is the Maryland Chapter. If you are south of BWI we have a DC Metro chapter and if you are north of town and don't mind a little longer drive we have a very strong chapter based out of York, PA, the Mason Dixon Chapter. I know our Mason-Dixon chapter director and I know he would be glad to have you in his chapter or at least bringing your Buick to their upcoming events. Let me know if you have any other questions. Oh and a little further down in the AACA forum is the BCA section which i hope you have discovered. We have great participants on their too.

I do not know the colors, however I wanted to suggest contacting a license plate restorer/retailer. I am sure you can find a couple on line or via Hemmings. I did this for my 38 NC plates and the restorer was very nice and provided me the color info I needed. I got the paint in spray can form from Tower Paint in WI (I think). They were also very nice and easy to deal with. One note be prepared for shipping expense that is a bit high as the aerosol cans and paint don't ship well due to their flammability. Incidentally the NC plates are yellow with black numbers. They are probably very close to the same colors for California, from what I have seen of CA plates. As I recall my yellow is a 77 Camaro color. The black is just black nothing special. I can get the exact info off the can if you want it. Not sure how exact you want to be with the colors.

My first car is a 1969 Dodge Charger 318cid. I say "is" because I still own it. I bought it in NJ in 1996. The car was originally from Charlotte and all previous owners were from Charlotte, so it's back home now.

My first Buick is my 38-80C. My second car, formerly owned by my father.

I also still have my third, forth, fifth and sixth car...I haven't sold a car yet. I need a bigger garage before my better half lets me have any more.

In all seriousness, just so there is no confusion, the Carolina Chapter is going to bid on 2012, but it's still up to the BOD final decision. We sure hope we are the front runners after last year's bid, but we welcome competition from any other Chapters wanting to bid. Get your bids into the BOD and BCA Office and we'll see you in Ames for your presentation.

OK well my this thread went off in a completely different direction than I intended, but that's OK. We use this one for constructive criticism on how to improve national meets

OK in response to some of the questions raised about cost of the National meet I can say this from experience related to the Carolina Chapters unsuccessful bid to host 2011. Cost are what they are. As for tour cost I would have been able to get group rates but there are tour buses to pay for and unfortunately the popular touristy type thing (for instance NASCAR Hall of Fame) are still pretty expensive even with a group discount. As for the flat registration fee. I could not get my financial to pencil without it. There are just too many expense to pay for and our chapter is not going to lose money, break even fine, profit would be nice as it would be nice to use the profit to reward the hard working volunteers in my chapter that will sacrifice their time.

One point was brought up about having the meets downtown. Most national meets are not actually held downtown but in the suburbs of the major city. The reason... finding a location that can hold 400+ cars, plus flea market area and has enough hotel rooms to support the expected turn out.

Clarification the BCA National Meet can be considered a "Grand National Meet" by other clubs terminology. AACA has like 8 or more national meets per year but only one grand national. BCA has one National. The regional may have REgional Meets or Tours but that is up to the Region.

As far booking National 3-5 years in advance.... I say bring your bid to the Board for consideration. Right now we've been lucky to get one or two bids at only two years out.

OK well my first post went off in a completely different direction than I intended, but that's OK.

I am going to try again, this time asking that everybody follow the conditions below.

First off I had hoped everyone would give cool FUN fantasy locations and just spout out reason why they thought their location would make a cool National Meet. FUN is the key word.

OK Conditions.

1. Imagine the BCA National meet costs no money to attend, it costs you nothing to get there, stay there, for your meals, NO MONEY.

2. It is ideal PERFECT weather and time of year is not an issue... it is whenever you want it to be.

3. Pretend I am not a BOD and that I am just a BCA Member trying to get a cool thread going (cause I AM!!)

OK other conditions

A. No Negative post about other peoples cool locations. They have their opinion you have yours, so be it. Just post your cool location.

B. No negative posts about the BCA, the Cost of the Meets, how meets are run, whatever. I want this to be a FUN thread. If you want provide constructive criticism, fair enough, but please GO OVER TO THE OTHER THREAD we will use that for constructive criticism as there is a place for that. If you do post negative stuff I am going to ask the moderators to remove it. Fair enough!!

I had my chassis media blasted. This removed all the old paint, rust, grease etc. As with any paint or adhesive surface preparation is critical having a clean lightly scuffed helps bonding. Also I used an etching primer on the bare metal to help paint adhesion. You may want to contact Adam Martin (Smartin on this BCA forum) and get some tips from him as he just painted his frame on his 58 (see Me and My Buicks Forum).

Nashville and Memphis sound good. So does Portland; I enjoyed Seattle and we had a great turn out of cars.

I like the idea of a set rotation schedule of the National to each Region and the chapters within the region figure out where the meet will be. We do that with the SE Regional Tour. There is a set rotation and each chapter knows they have to step up and run the tour once every 8 years. It works wells and no chapter ever flounders and it guarantees a major BCA event near our members in the region every so often.

Agreed the chapter would have to want to host it. The BCA does not force chapters (or Regions) to host National Meets.

Just so there is no confusion my point in the post is in an ideal world where do you want it. You know, just for FUN. Hence New Orleans as one of my choices, we have no chapter there so a National meet there is highly unlikely in the foreseeable future.

How bout a quick informal poll /question.

Where do you want a BCA National Meet?

Two things:

1. Of course I am sure most people will say they want it near their location (as would I)

2. How bout ideas for locations that have not hosted a National meet in over 10 years. You can see the entire list of NAtional meet location and years at Buick Club National Meets

My Top Five would be

I know what some will say

1. Vegas in July it's like 117 in the shade. The Cadillac LaSalle Club had their Grand National there in 2009 and it was entirely indoors.

2. Miami and New Orleans in July with like 120% humidity, but hey it's before hurricane season.

One example

Running Board Gravel Deflector

This L –shaped piece was mounted on at the back of the running boards to protect the front of the rear fender. It has hard to find S shaped bolts that go through holes in the running board frame. The deflectors fit all series 37/38 Buicks as well as 1939/40 Series 80 /90 cars. Group 8.320 Part number 1300869 with the s-bolts being Group 8.321 Part #1300870.

Until now they were not reproduced. For those of you who are missing them. I am now reproducing these deflectors and the s-shaped bolts. The deflector comes in mill finished stainless steel and the s bolts are steel. I get $25 ea (comes with the two S-bolts), $50 for a pair plus shipping. Send me a PM with your address and I'll get exact shipping costs to you and my contact info.

Also a reminder I also sell the center hood hinge molding for 33, 34-5, and 37-38 Buicks.

Attached is the new membership application that I just received from the 36-38 club it has all the info you need. We would love to have you in the club we have great people and good resources in the club. Remember you have to be a BCA member to join. We have about 120 members currently, but the old 37-38 club had around 500 at it's peak so we still have some work to do but it is growing everyday as people find out about the new club and the stigmata of the old 37-38 club and it's demise is erased.

To answer your original question on why know 36's I suggest going to 1937 and 1938 Buicks www.1937and1938Buicks.com and downloading the first Torque Tube Magazine. I believe Dave Lewis the club's founder talks about how the club was formed in this first newsletter.

But that is history and the 36-38 Club is the present and future so we look forward to having you (or any other interested folks) in the club. I should mention I am not an officer in the 36-38 club but am just a big fan and promoter of the club.

Yes they are on the cowl tag. If you have your numbers many of us here can decode them. Also go to 1937 and 1938 Buicks www.1937and1938Buicks.com for lots of info. I believe some of us have posted paint chips on there (they don't have the code numbers though) plus there are old torque tube which probably have info on paint and interior options as well.

Adam,

I bought a new engine hoist very inexpensively (under $200) from Sam's Club. I get all kinds of use out of it. It has been a good investment. It folds up out of the way too. I plan on using mine for a few more projects too. As we are close in age you may also find a use for it for years to come.

As for the spring compressor. I bought one from a local Mac Tools man, again very inexpensive all things considered. However I haven't got near as much use out of it as the hoist. I suspect you can probably rent one from your local auto parts store which may prove better than buying one.

I was watching WWII in HD on the History Channel.
