    Ed,

good question, I know from my own experience outside of the AACA when I was the National Judging Chair for a marque club, it can become a slippery slope, real fast. It just won't stop with the master cylinder

Well said, first its the single pot masters, then its the bad headlights, then come the radials, then lets address the LED brake lights, then its the lousy drum brakes then its...............  pretty soon its no longer an original car.  I don't’ mean to turn away from safety, but in reality it is exceedingly rare to have an issue with these old cars, driven as rarely as they are.  The only exception I would make is the installation of seat belts.

So, I would say, be prepared!!  ALWAYS drive with at least one fire extinguisher, ALWAYS disconnect the battery unless you are standing next to the car, ALWAYS check the car over - top to bottom for leaks, smells, sounds, etc.  Now go have fun!

  2. Greg Stanley has an excellent podcast called “CarCollector Podcast” and Hagerty also has a good one titled “Hagerty Sidedrafts”.

The America Web Radio program called Classic Car Show has OK content, but the production value is so pathetic and distracting it’s almost unlistenable.

Unity made different sorts of logos for the spot lights.  Mine are original on my 41 and it does have the Lincoln logo.  You can sometimes fine them and their parts on eBay.  If Unity can supply an original unit it would be great even though a reproduction.  There could be some NOS somewhere, not likely.

    Thanks Ray

  4. These parts came with a 1948 Lincoln I purchased recently.  I’d prefer to sell everything at one time but I’ll take offers on individual pieces as well.  Money is always a factor, but I’d like to have them go to a good home rather than just have them sitting on a shelf in my garage.  Call me with questions and or offers. I live near Chicago 847-997-9944

  5. All, my ‘48 Continental Cabriolet came with a generic Unity spotlight in fair condition with some pitted and worn chrome..  This spotlight does not have the “Lincoln” logo, is 12 volt (my car is 6) and has a dent in the light dome.  For these reasons, and because the light is right in front for all to see, I’m thinking of just getting a new one from Unity.  Cost delivered will be about $320, which I think is pretty reasonable.

Question is, in 1948, would it most like have an ivory or black handle?  Either is available.  My interior is maroon leather.  Any input would be helpful.

  6. Well Tom, I found out today that there is a Bulb “sleeve” that apparently holds the bulb next to the switch.  That’s the piece I need.  I don’t have a picture of it but one of the Zephyr vendors has one but will be gone until February.........so if anyone out there has one of these, please let me know.

Thanks as always Tom!  Stay safe.

  7. Thanks for the response.  That hole you see is for the mounting stud for the radio speaker.  it looks like it should be the one, but its not.  I know its a lot to ask, but think you could climb under there and see how your ignition key is illuminated??  That would help me a lot in determining if I have the wrong switch that has no port for a bulb OR I'm missing a small bracket that is supposed to secure the bulb socket to the switch.  Thanks in advance, this thing is driving me nuts.
