Funny you should ask Jason !
:D
Apart from running out of gas on I-81 (. . . gotta fix that gas guage someday - it always reads " full", . . . musta miscualculated ?), the trip home was without incident. We headed north, in convoy with Elton and Gail Cook and their beautiful blue '66 Riviera as far as Binghamton, where they headed east, and just shortly afterwards, the BBB 430 stopped motoring from fuel starvation !
Fortunately, at 80 mph, I was able to coast about a 1/4 mile to an "ON" ramp, and let the car roll down 'the wrong way' on the shoulder of the ramp with the 4 ways on. It was a 100' hike to the Sunoco, to buy a 2 gal. gas can, fill it with 2 gal. of 93 octane, 100' hike back to the car, fire it up and drive to the station to fill it up. Needless to say, there was also a DQ next to the station, so we couldn't have picked a better place to stop !
I'll probably get reminded about it everytime Mary gets into the car, for sometime to come !

I think you got most of em - good work Jayson P.,
. . . and good work Jason Z. !

. . .anyone else planning on attending - only 5 weeks away !
-
Just a follow up - so we all know.
The '70 pull strap escutcheons are a different breed than the '68-'69 style !
. . . thanks to all.

I know this probably won't be of much help, but I ended up using a modified, non-original, after market, universal style plastic/nylon clip that I happened to find from one of the many vendors on a visit to Carlisle, PA.
I was unable to source any originals prior to finding these.

Randy/Tim,
I need to go out and look at the cars this weekend and I can let you know. It is amazing how you can look at something for years and never really see it.
I hear yah Kevin - looking forward to your reply.
I suspect the '70s are different than the '68-'69 varieties?
-
That's what I'm thinking too Tim, but my knowledge of '70s is limited. Sometimes certain parts look similar, but will not interchange to other years.
Thanks for the reply - hopefully someone 'in-the-know' will chime in.
-
. . . anybody ? ? ?

Does anyone out there in Riviera land know if '70 Riviera pull strap covers are the same, or different than '68-'69 covers (escutcheons)?
I know that '68-'69 versions are different in appearance, . . . but want to know if they will fit the '70 Riviera pull strap ends.
Thanks for your help !

We plan on staying on for Carlisle following the ROA meet, and will register today, so we can achieve the 25 car status. Looking forward to meeting fellow ROA members at Hershey and Carlisle !

When and "if" you find your Riviera Erik, follow Jayson's (JZRIV) advice - you won't be sorry !

Might be a little late, but contact Mitch Romanowski for the best reproduction or NOS centre caps on the market - mitchromanowski@sbcglobal.net

Looks like the dreaded 'tin worms' had a good feast in the cowl area, as well as the lower A frames (they all go there!).
The only patch panels I'm aware of for '68/'69 Rivs are the rear lower 1/4s offered by J.C. Whitney Co. EvilBay is also another good source for 'used or nos' parts, but when combined with shipping it can get quite pricey.
The '68 Riv also shares a lot of commomn parts with the '69.
Good luck with your 'down under' resto, and plese keep us posted on your progress - great pics by the way !

Could be just a poor, or dirty contact on the rheostat portion of the switch, but you'll hafta remove it to check it out, the ground wire (if equipped), may also have a poor source ?

Dipsticks are stamped with part numbers - get the vendor to verify the part is correct for your '70 455 before you bid on it.
Does someone have the correct '70 455 part number ?

Jason - you need a hobby !
Great pics, and some good looking Rivieras.
Thank you for sharing !
-
Thanks for the update Ed, looks like a very good turnout !
-
Thanks for sharing Jason, sure to be a good one !
-
Rivieras 4 sure - don't know about other Buicks, but there's always something new to learn about Buicks !

Jason/Reatta Man -
'69/'70s Rivs had electric fuel pumps that were accessible through a panel in the trunk floor. For whatever reason, they went back to mechanical fuel pumps in '71.

I agree with Ed - screwdrivers and hammers around window glass is definetly a no-no Alex! Old or aged glass can be very brittle and sometimes all you have to do is look at it the wrong way, and it will shatter or chip. A little practice using the tool properly, (I prefer the arrow head one), will eliminate the mystery of window trim removal. The first one is the challenge, after that they are pretty easy ! Maybe a little practice on some junkyard jewels, till you get the hang of it?

Someone is parting a '70 on v8buick (64-300-lark)- I think you may have already contacted him ?
First Generation Door Edge Guards - Application
in Buick Riviera
Posted
I used a clear silicone RTV sealer inside the channel on the door edge guards on my '68, to prevent/minimize paint chipping and allow them to slide on easier. It also seals them from trapped moisture when you wash the car. Any access silicone will clean off easily without damaging the painted surface.
