  1. Sorta jumping in late with my $.02 Dave, but here it is for what it's worth, having gone through your dilema.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - it's your car and you can paint it any colour you want as long as your gonna be happy with it ! As others have said, if it's a total colour change make sure it's a complete repaint, and don't go for the $99.95 special ! Do a little research, as your doing, and remember that that little colour swatch you look at in the paint code book will look a lot different on a full size car, try and see some 'full size' samples to verify your colour choice. Also remember not to judge the finished job fresh outa the spray booth. The car will look a whole lot different when all the trim and bits 'n pieces are re-assembled, and make sure all those bits 'n pieces are huffed 'n buffed before they are re-assembled too !

    Good luck on your repaint ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

  2. Welcome to the world of Rivieras Roger!

I don't have any answers, as I'm not all that familiar with first generation Rivs, but you can check

out the ROA website at www.rivowners.org - the ROA also has Tech. Advisors to answer members

questions for the various years of Riviera, in addition to many parts sources.

eBay is also another great source for Riviera parts - do a search under Riviera, or '63 Riviera.

I'm sure there are plenty of ROA members who will have your answers on the 'Classic' first generation Rivieras !

You are correct, the "Heavy Duty" is what I have. I need to know if this was the same on any other years. It has a larger body, and the snorkel is larger and oval. Do you have a part number by chance for this air cleaner?

    Thanks,

    Mike </div></div>

    Mike -

I only have a '68 part number for the Heavy Duty unit, and it may be for the whole assembly.

    It's called Air Cleaner and Silencer - GRP 3.402 # 6484313.

Maybe someone with a '69 Parts list can double check the number for you.

Bob - I think all 'GS' cars came with a Chrome breather cover ?

In the '68 Parts book, there were 2 different air cleaners - heavy duty, and non-heavy duty. The 'snorkle' opening is the easiest way to tell them apart, the non-HD has a smaller fluted tapered opening, while the HD version has a much larger opening. Not sure about '69s, but maybe the larger opening air cleaner base is the 'high capacity' version ?

There are also two different air cleaner elements listed, HD Paper&Poly, non-HD Paper.

The Chrome air cleaner cover is common to both types.

The cooling issue aside.I didn't much care for those open fan blades when I set the timing. </div></div>

If it has a clutched fan Dave, just hold the fan while your messing with the points, or the distributor timing !

  6. Why would you even consider such a swap - even if it was feaseable ? It would definetly lower the value of your '69, not to mention the hassle with parts interchange. I know that '68/'69/'70 front clips will interchange, and have some pictures of a '69 front clip on a '70, but I'm not sure about the '66/'67. I suppose anything is possible if you put your mind to it, and your pockets are deep enough !

Thanks Dar - you learn something new about these Rivieras everyday !

What's a good source for the number codes, to cross reference to the alpha codes ?

    If, there is one.

  8. Just for the record Dave - Ed and Sherry have not resigned as RCs, and will also be coordinating reorganization activities at the new ROA Office in Altoona, as 'Office Managers' - not as Directors,

We only have one Director, and Ray Knott (ROA #1) has offered his services on an 'interim' basis.

    #9343 </div></div>

I noticed that too 'T'! I tried several images to use as an avatar - but they all appeared distorted in the final AACA format.

    What are we doing wrong Dave ? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

  10. Hi Dave -

Sorry I don't have any pics for you, but my '69 Colour & Trim Manual shows an Antique Gold (Code Z)swatch, and it is not listed as a 'Riviera only' exclusive colour. This Gold is quite dark compared to the other '69 Buick gold metallics, Trumpet Gold (Code G), or Champagne Mist (Code S).

The only gold metallic listed as a 'Riviera only' exclusive colour is Embassy Gold (Code J), and it appears to have a much higher gold content than the Antique Gold (Code Z) swatch.

You might be able to sort it out by checking a '69 Buick C&T Dealer Manual?

Not sure how Code 77 paint ties in - not trying to confuse, just trying to help ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

  11. Sometimes the fingers are faster than the brain Phil, ...or is it the other way around <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Sure is nice to have our own new place to 'share the pride' or whatever, with fellow members !

It will probably take a while for members to become aware of it, and like anything 'new'

it will take some time to learn how to fly it ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

  12. The New 'Board of Trustees' was posted with some errors, and removed for corrections, I believe it's back up, or will be. As Dick stated previously there will be 'official' announcements once all the details are finalized !
