  1. Hi KCL, Interesting the variations and some we have different words as well. All are unique in their own way. The ones we tend to use are : Mudguards, hood and bonnet depends who you talk to here, boot, convertible, we use passenger and drivers side ( drivers being on the right side of course ! ), we use footpath instead of pavement, generator, bulb, hubcap, tyre, petrol unless your filling up with LPG then it is Gas, sump, seat, windscreen, blinkers ( some use indicators ), Now you know when we sometimes ask a question we tend to have our own slant on a word. But like I said, its interesting. The best thing about this forum, we all have one thing in common and I enjoy the bantering between our counterparts around the world.
  2. I came across a thread with these tyres from Wallace Wade on it. Has anyone dealt with these people, are they reasonably priced and does anyone know if they export to Australia. I like the profile and tread pattern and would love to get these for my 34. Yes we do have some distributors in Australia of Whitewall Tyres but around $420 each and I have 6 of the buggers it does get expensive.
  3. Hey guys. The bracket "stalk" that attached from the fender to the brake light isn't sheet metal but in fact cast. The are reasonably sturdy. Mine are at the body shop otherwise I'd take a close up to show you. I've attached a few more photos. The rusty car ( an american 34 car ) you can see the cast bracket attaching where the rear bumper iron bolts to the chassis. This is one type. The other is a white convertable and this is the same type I have which is the same as on Mark's convertable. The cast "stalk" one. I don't believe either one was solely for export but either "option" I have seen I have seen on many types of 34's both here and in America.
  4. Hi, I don't know if this helps or not but the Dodge Brothers Club News ( American Club ) has a three page article on straightening axles. Just thought might be of interest Ian
  5. Everyone is a comedian !!! LOL I've attached a photo of Mark's ( USA Mark who has a 34 Dodge Convertable ) rear tail light and "Stalk". This is the same one on my ( yet to be restored so I wont post an embarassing photo ) 34 Dodge 4 Door sedan. You can also see in the next photo of another friend of mine who has a 34 4 Door Sedan with a Richards Body. Both of these lights are mounted to the rear mudguard. The next photo is of a guy who has just finished his 34. These rear lights are mounted on a "stalk" which is moulded onto the metal surround that goes over the rear bumper bar iron ( which eventually goes onto the chassis /body bolt ) As far as I know these are the correct ones for the 34 but god only knows how often they changed things, especially for export models. Hope this helps Ian notice how I put "stalk" in inverted commas....being Australian and all !!
  6. Bernie, The clear you are using, any particular brand etc. I dont have much wood ( in the floor is the bulk of it ) and I need to coat that so what do you use ? Ian
  7. Keiser, Bill and Jack. Much appreciated guys ! This is exactly what I'm after. I know a friend of mine has them on his car and swears by them. Again, thanks for your help. I'll put another shrimp on the barbie for ya !!!! Regards Ian
  8. Hi Bernie, Damn....I would have introduced myself. Can't believe the Study hasn't sold at $17,000. I don't think Roger will be too impressed with the $15 you paid for the site. I have a feeling he paid a bucket load ! Must catch up soon. Ian
  9. Hi, I remember a while ago someone listed a site where to buy bonnet / hood stays. They attach to the radiator support bars and when you open the bonnet the edges sit on these supported stays. Saves the painted cown from possible damage. Anyone have an idea the web site of the company that sells these ? Thanks Ian
  10. Hi Jason, I haven't forgotten you. I saved Ken's letter in a safe place in my computer........so safe in fact I forgot where I saved it. I did find it yesterday and I have to convert it to get it to a managable size to be accepted to this forum. When I get a minute I'll get it done and post it. Regards Ian
  11. Hi Bernie, Tell me you didn't have a stall at the Yarra Glen Swap ? I was actually standing next to that car with a friend of mind discussing whether I should retain the spare wheel covers from my Dodge or just have the tyre in the guards as per that fine example. I never thought of asking if you'd be there ! Ian
  12. This is the guy I have been in contact with. Talk about a small world he lives 10 minutes from my place and now I'm using the same painter and upholstery guy as well as ever the tray truck guy. What goes around comes around
  13. Cm'on you guys . Surely someone has tried to find some of the old employees who worked in the factories. They can't all be dead !
  14. I agree. The only thing I don't know is when the chassis were sent to Australia and Richards made the bodies if any options or colour choices for these trims were given. Mine being an American Body, as you said, is a dark walnut woodgrain. It would be interesting to find someone that worked in the factories in the 30's who could probably answer the bulk of our questions !
  15. Hi Gurra, Seems to be a variation on a theme. As I said, Ken Sobel's car has two different finishes. One a walnut and the other a beech, two totally different and in contrast to each other. I have quite a few of 34's and there are some different ones around.
  16. Does anyone know if there were options of the metal finish on the garnish moulds ? I have seen some dark colours and light ones and even two tone ( as per Ken Sobel's car ). I actually like a Burr Walnut as per the photo attached. I've also attached a photo of what I believe is an original colour. What do you guys think ? Ian
  17. Hi, I'm with KCL about the fenders for $200 ea "$200 for those fenders is a steal if they are as good in person as they appear in the photo". If they are correct for your truck and check out the underside and all looks good - grab em ! Ian
  18. Hi Jason, I believe they were an accessory but the "real" accessory were the ones on Ken Sobel's car. I have many original sales brochures and pictures and most have no bumper guards on them. The ones that do are like Ken's car. I have quite a few photos of Ken's car and he even sent me a story of how his car was restored by the prisioners ! I've checked on ebay ( thanks to Keiser's search suggestion ) and nothing that looks like the original accessory. I did write to one guy who said he has none in stock at the moment ( wouldn't you know it ), so I'll keep pestering him until he has some in stock. Ian
  19. Hi, I would prefer those ( as seen on Ken Sobel's car ) but am open to different styles. Regards Ian
  20. Thanks for that. I googled on ebay and found all different sorts. I had tried bumperettes and overriders but never thought of Bumper Guards !!! doh
  21. Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has a source or knows anyone who has the bumber overriders for a 34 dodge sedan. Ian
  22. HI, This is where my serial number is located for my 34. Check around here for yours. Again, being a pickup, maybe in a diffrent place. Ian
  23. Thanks guys for all your help. The advice and pics really help especially, as I said, when I wasn't the one who pulled the car apart. At least I have a number of door interior panels etc for templates. I'll go back to the guy who has the bonnet lacing and see what else he has. Much appreciated Ian
  24. Hi guys, I have attached a few photos of what I think is original firewall lining that sits inside the car. As I didn't pull the bulk of my car apart, does anyone know if this was the only thing that lines the inside of the firewall. It appears to be some sort of fibreboard. I was thinking of using some 18mm ply ( like I'm using on the floor ) but would value anyone's opinion that has either replaced this ( and what with ) or is there something else I'm missing. And how this was attached. I've also attached a photo of bonnet lacing I have. This is 5/8 lacing and would like to know if this is correct for my 34 Dodge. Thanks as always. Ian
