  1. W is for tinted windshield (not full tinted glass)

0 is for roof molding for two tone paint

2 is for the 2nd option group

L is for 4-speed floor shifter

5 is for the 5th option group

V is for W29 side trim (I thought that was in group 4)

Y is for deluxe front and rear seat belts

  2. I spend most of today on this one:

(Little bit larger picture). It drove me nuts that I couldn't identity it, and I'm not even a Mopar guy!

I finally ended up Googling 1939 Canadian Dodge, which took me to this page:

    http://www.autogallery.org.ru/dd1939.htm

There is a link at the bottom that says 1939 Canada. It shows this picture:

Looks like a match to me. Had the beaded fender that the US Dodges didn't have. Has the hood side trim and Dodge emblem toward the front.

  3. Something new for this year's meet... You don't need to be a member to participate. We also have a special deal going on - if you are not currently an N.A.O.C. member, and you register for the meet, AND you sign up for membership at the same time, we're knocking $10 off the total. Registration forms should be available soon.

  4. I wanted to look at a '41 98 coupe locally about a year ago. It was during fall Hershey week. It wasn't really what I wanted. It was black and not a Hydramatic. There's always something that doesn't meet my requirements. But it was for sale for a while and the price came down to something reasonable. When I called, it was sold, which is probably for the better anyway. I have some friends with a real nice, original '41 78 Deluxe, but it's a black sedan. frown.gif

  5. In my opinion, that 68/Hydramatic needs saved. Of the 2700 68 coupes built, how many do you suppose were Hydramatic equipped? Of those so equipped, how many do you think have survived?

If you don't save it, some creep is going to get his hands on it and street rod it, probably with a crate 350/THM350.

    AND...

That 68 is a 68 Deluxe. It has the plastic hood ornament, deluxe instrument cluster and deluxe steering wheel. It should also have the deluxe clock and glove box door, and automatic glove box light.

  6. Those "air" controls are not for air conditioning, they are for just plain ventilation air. One for the driver's side, the other for the passenger. Those controls open air valves on either side of the cowl and let outside air into the car. On my '55, the driver's side came in directly. The passenger's side came in through the heater.

'53 through '56 factory air conditioning controls were located in the center of the dash, below the glove compartment, and they were marked "air conditioning."

It looks like that piece of headliner goes down behind the tube, and that the tube would have just blown air along the sides of the roof. Factory '53 and '54 tubes went into a chrome bezel and continued, unseen, up toward the front, with two adjustable outlets on each side. One for the front seat, one for the back.

    Here's a '56 with factory air:

and here's a shot of the factory compressor, as well as all of the associated copper tubing, and the evaporator case on the firewall:

  7. Rich,

As far as your trim tag in concerned...

    Style: 56-3637

56 means it is a 1956. 3637 means it is an 88 (36) Holiday coupe (37). If it were a Super 88 there would be a D on the end.

    Body: BA-4250

This means the body was built in Doraville, Georgia and it was the 4,250th 88 Holiday coupe body to be built at that Fisher Body plant.

    Trim: 367

Interior trim code for Ivory vinyl and green pattern cloth. This is the Custom Trim Option. It is the same cloth and seat pattern that the Super 88s used, but they used genuine leather where this car has vinyl. The Custom Trim Option was a $40 option. The Custom Trim Option also included a foam rubber front seat cushion, carpeting (instead of rubber floor covering), chrome side roof rail moldings (instead of painted) and perforated headliner (instead of cloth).

    Paint: S31-30

S denotes special two-tone paint, where the roof and nose are one color and the trunk and lower body sides are another color. Conventional two-tone paint (without the S) would just be the roof painted a different color than the rest of the car. 31 is the code for Canyon Green which is the color on the trunk and lower sides. 30 is the code for Ice Green which is the color on the roof and nose.

    Top ACC

Top would be the convertible top color, which doesn't apply to you. ACC is where codes would be to reflect options affecting the build of the body. I'm pretty certain that if this were a factory air car it would display an N here.

  8. Rich,

I sent a reply to your pm. I said that photos would help before I saw that you had photos posted.

Doesn't look like factory a/c to me. That is not a factory compressor. No outside air scoops.

Are there vents in the roof where the air comes out? Or do the tubes just blow air along the headliner? On '53 and '54 factory air cars, those tubes actually went up into the headliner and there were 4 vents in the roof to direct the air.

A shot of the a/c controls would be nice.

  9. Good job, Chuck! You're coming along well on the pre-war stuff.

A note about those fender moldings (some people call them wash boards...)

They were on all 90 series cars. On the 70 series cars, those moldings were only available as part of the optional Deluxe equipment package. But, late in the year, due to war related material shortages, the wash boards were left off of Deluxe cars. This is also around the time the grilles below the headlamps were painted instead of chromed, and the lower part of the instrument panel was painted instead of chromed. Wash boards were not used on the 60 series cars at all.

And, on the 90 series, three of the 4 models were available with a 6 or an 8. The only model that came only as an 8 was the convertible phaeton. It was deemed too heavy for the 6.

'41 is the first year the term 98 was used. In '40 they were known Series 90 Custom 8 Cruisers (I have been set straight on that by more than one person...). For '41 they were known as 96 Custom Cruisers and 98 Custom Cruisers.

The coupe in question is interesting in that it has the painted grilles under the headlights, but still has the chromed lower dash panel.

Fusick has shafts? I'd buy a set from them and return these to Terrill. But I don't see shafts in the Fusick catalog - just rocker arms.

  12. Not coincidence. I posted there shortly after posting here. I figured that would be a good site for Rocket engine information. I went in this morning and tried to post a reply to the reply recieved, but the system logged me out and I lost it. I didn't bother re-entering it.

  13. I bought a pair of new rocker shafts from Terrill in Texas. The oil holes don't line up with the pinned bracket that bolts to the head. They seem to be off center. We can pin the bracket to the shaft, but the oil supply hole in the shaft doesn't line up with the oil supply hole in the bracket. There will be a restriction of oil flow into the shaft. I called Terrill and they verified that the correct number was sent. They say that they sell alot of these shafts and no one has ever had this problem before (or just never bothered to look) and they they haven't changed suppliers. I have the option to return them. They said if they send me another set, chances are that they will be machined the same way. Both shafts in the package are machined the same. Not sure what do do. I need new shafts. I don't know that I trust to return these and buy shafts somewhere else.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Looks like my only alternative is to pin the bracket to the shaft and take it to the machine shop and have the shaft drilled to match the hole in the bracket.
