It's been a while since I posted. Life and other reasons. Anyways, I was doing some work to my '89 16V car and noticed the outer CV boot on the one side has just started to fail. I have asked Rick, AJ and Jackson if they know of a replacement PN, but they do not. I also did a search before posting this question and nothing comes up for the 16V cars (they use unique axles). I don't know if Hemi or anyone else might know. I can say with 99% certainty that the TII boots will not work. They are too small in diameter. I have a spare set of axles someplace, but I can't seem to find them right now.

    Thanks for any help.

  2. There are people driving to the TC Meet in Chesterfield MO in mid September. If you are in the club, you might ask someone taking a passenger if they could pick up your TC and drop it off in Kansas City on their way.

That is, if your TC is capable of making the trip on its own power.

So, who is this ric46ric anyway?  Why advertise his stuff here? That poor car is stored in a ‘Rat hole’ of a place.

    That is LOW compression!

I think you have the timing belt off a few teeth,

    Hemi, what do you think???

I would agree with that conclusion. I had previously suggested VERIFYING that the cam and crank sprockets were properly aligned. It is so very easy to miss on that setting especially if looked at from above. One really needs to have the right front wheel off and lower timing cover off too, so you can see the timing marks 'head on'.

@Reaper1 did you ever find a replacement rear power window motor? Got mine out and it is fried, so now on the lookout for a replacement or someone who can rebuild

All quarter window motors are NOT alike. What year and build date is your TC? A photo of what you got, both sides of the motor. Did you remove it with the window glass and mechanism all together, or did you get the motor out by itself.

Hi folks, I'm wondering if it's normal for the trunk to be very heavy to open. The struts will hold it open just fine but my wife doesn't even like to drive the car because with the soft top there's no safe place to put her "stuff" because the trunk is so difficult to open.  The key works fine as do the hinges. There doesn't seem to be anything malfunctioning. It's just hard to lift.  Do the rest of you have this problem or do I have weak struts?  Thanks

The struts do NOT help the initial lifting of the trunk lid from the position it rests in after unlocking with key or electrically. I can see that it would be more difficult for a lady with manicured  fingernails to grab the lid from below. This, in my opinion, is just the weight of the lid which must be overcome, as there is really nothing to grab on.

Referencing previous posts, I have finally completed the arduous task of removing, and reinstalling, the cylinder head, manifolds, and turbo in order to replace the damaged turbo gasket.  After doing this, I attempted to start my engine, it would turn over ok but not start.  I made a spark check and it was good, checked fuel input at fuel line connection to fuel rail, it was good (good flow of fuel during starting attempt). I'm now wondering if my fuel injectors not functioning is the problem. The injector wiring harness was disconnected (plug) during maintenance but was reconnected, and physically checked to ensure a tight connection. My blue service manual says the SMEC controls the injectors, so I hope this is not the problem.  Anyway, will continue to troubleshoot and hopefully find the problem.

All help, from all sources, would be appreciated.

As a basic first attempt to see if the engine is timed correctly, try spraying some carburetor cleaner into the throttle body as someone else tries cranking the engine from inside the car.

If the engine will run on the carb cleaner, you can begin thinking that there is an electrical connection problem.

If the engine does not start or even attempt to start, I would suggest rechecking the crank/cam timing as well as the distributer timing setting at the intermediate shaft sprocket. (Figure 3 on page 9-17 in your blue book)

New owner here in south central Wisconsin.  Vin is ZC2FP1108KB200880.  Red exterior, Ginger interior, and Black top.  Car is in great shape.  We will be taking it to the local shows as we have never seen one at a show in our area.  Great little car.  Picture is the day we brought it home in December.  It was raining that day.  The person I purchased from was driving it in the winter months.  It will be properly stored until I'm gone.

Thank you for the photo and the ‘vitals’ updates. I have one exactly like yours #0766, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have mine, let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

My VIN # is :   ZC2FP1108KB200412   Also, did not know there were two versions of this engine, thanks for the info.  Also, looked at Rock

Auto, they did not show my parts, will look again.

You made an error entering your VIN I suspect. Don't you have a 16 Valve TC?  I see that the VIN ending in 412 has an R, not a P as the 5th digit in the VIN.

With that VIN, you have the early block DOHC engine in your TC. A September '88 built TC previously owned by LANG, G. & D.  Do you plan to become a member of the TC Owners club as they were?

My TCs VIN ends in 766 and mine is an early block 8 valve TC.  You need to get in touch with Rick Diogo who specializes in the 16V engine and parts.

Trying to find a source for intake/exhaust manifold gasket, valve cover gasket, cylinder head gasket, looked on line, looked at local parts stores, can't find anything, would appreciate any help in finding these items.  My TC is a 1989, 4-cyl, 2.2.........also, are any of these parts common to any other small Chrysler engine?

Try RockAuto.com, they have gaskets for this engine, though you can look for gaskets for a LeBaron Turbo 4 or a Daytona Turbo 4 in the similar year range. There are some differences between the early 2.2L 4 cylinder and the later 'Common Block' 4 cylinder which looks virtually the same but are not such as water pump, timing belt and valve cover gasket.  Since you have not told us which version engine you have, I cannot be more specific. Try letting us know the VIN#.

  11. Red Alph, you are quite right! I began my automotive career in 1959 as an apprentice mechanic at a DeSoto / Plymouth Dealership. I remain a ‘dyed in the wool’ Chrysler, the REAL Chrysler, supporter. All the new stuff, even though having awesome performances, is not true Chrysler, but in name only. A HEMI is a 331-392 or a 426.  The rest is just “Wannabe”. The reason you find me here is merely because I like and support the ‘Underdog’ like Chrysler’s TC by Maserati. I bought my first one because so many naysayers put it down. I had to find out why it was so awful and found out it is so much superior compared to many others.
