         Hi all,

Do any auto parts stores or somewhere else cary our DRB II diagnostic readers and offer free or cheap readings? The ones I've asked only carry the newer OBD units. Trying to avoid taking it to the dealership for a more expensive reading, if the dealers near me even still have theirs. Any suggestions on places you all have found that offer this?

If you are a MEMBER of the TC Owners Club, you have an other forum to come to with your questions. Just as Barney is a technical advisor for Reattas, we have technical advisors ready and willing to help with any drivability or operational problem with your TC.

    Hi Nile,

It's actually a water leak from the outside into the cabin. I'm getting soaked carpet on the driver's side and sometimes the passenger's side at different points, especially after it rains. It does this with both the hardtop on and also with the  soft top on. So, the water is leaking in from somewhere, but I can't see a path of water anywhere. So, it doesn't appear to be anywhere around the windows or the tops.

Will you tell us WHEN you have the leak?   WHEN you wash your car? WHEN you drive in the rain?

WHEN the A/C is on?   We can not diagnose a leak without seeing it, that should be obvious, so you need to give us some useful input information.  There is no magic FIX.  I drive an early built 89 and it leaks at the 2 corners of the top attachment to the upper part of the windshield. This is a common point of leakage. I don’t even fuss with it.  I just carry a large towel to put over the sun visors if I run into rain.

  3. Welcome to the TC world. When you join the TC owners Club, you’ll find my phone number in the newsletter as I contribute to its content. I’d like to chat with you as we seem to have been doing the same type of work for the last 50+ years.

  4. “Anyone know who bought this?  Are they a club member? Talk about an early car. Does the engine look like that because it was a California car or just was outside some?”

“Engine? There are no pics of the engine, maybe you mean the poor condition of the paint, ?“

You guys ever think about checking the VIN? Anything built in Oct 1988 would have the early 2.2 engine block.

The same as the early Daytona turbo 2.2 engine.

  5. Have you tried cleaning the Throttle Body?  Remember, all drivability problems are not caused by a mechanical or electrical problem, some times it is just a need for a little normal maintenance.

Oh, you might not know that cleaning the throttle body is part of maintenance?  Most people don't.  After 33 years of operation, it might just need that.  Even if it had been done once or twice along the way, that may still be more than 10 years ago.

I recently purchased a Chrysler TC service manual (red cover) but it does not cover the 2.2L eight valve engine.  It only covers the 16V and the 3.0L engines.

I noticed there is also a service manual with a blue cover.  Is that the one I need for my 8V engine?

    Yes.

Are the any updates for 2023?  Thanks

    I’ll add my preference here;

Been using Mobil-1 for many years. Due to ambient temperatures here in Arizona are often 110F and above most summer months, I use 20w-50 if I can find it or 20w-40 in my 296,000+ mile ‘89 TC with the early block 2.2 8-valve setup. I will add that I drive my TC, I do not race it, but I will use all  power available under some circumstances if necessary. I do also enjoy getting 30+ MPG with this car on the road which is possible with a 5 speed trans.

I don’t really understand what the fuss over oil viscosity is about. Even generic 10-30 or 20-40 engine oil is viable.

By the way, I run the engine oil 15,000 miles between changes and replace the oil filter 1 time in between @ around 7,500 mi.  I have a spotless engine internally and still no indication of oil consumption between changes.

The temperature gauge is inoperable on my '89 Eight valve.  The engine, however, seems to be running at a normal temperature.  Is this a common problem?  I plan to check the temperature gauge sending unit first, but I don't know where it is located.

    Any help is appreciated.

  9. [As I wrote above, THIS diagram of parts IS AN EXAMPLE ONLY] The picture I have of the absorber on the TC is far from being this clear, therefore visual observation from below the car is necessary to actually see the whole picture. I am in no position to be getting under my TC for a photograph.

    As we look at this setup, there are 2 possibilities that could cause this 1/4" downward travel of the bumper on one side;

    1. The bolt that secures the inner-most bracket DOWN against the unibody of the car. If that bolt comes loose or falls out altogether, it would allow the bumper to weigh down the forward end of the absorber and pivot on the large bracket in the middle of the absorber, therefore creating the gap,  OR

    2. The center bracket retaining bolts could be loose, though that would be a stretch considering there are several of them. I do believe the bolt holes are elongated.

Get under the car to get a better look.

You've got to go back farther.  I am the one who sold the car to the Kentucky Pastor.

I bought the car on E-bay, from a California resident.  It was delivered to me with the 4KAMALA California tags.  Judging from the condition of the driver's seat, it probably was owned by the wrestler, and not the vice president.

One interesting tidbit, the rear storage compartment contained part of an ancient mobile phone unit.  It probably cost a fortune, back in the day.

Thanks for the detective work.  You're getting close.

Look, I have no records of the multitude of different owners of this particular car. You asked, "This is a long shot, but does anyone know if either the wrestler or the VP ever owned a yellow TC?"

I think there is a good chance "Giggles" did not own this car and since the name plack matches the wrestler's professional name KAMALA, it could have been originally ordered by him, just saying...

This is the end of the search as far as I am concerned, I'm as close as I am going to get.

Oh, by the way, does anyone own a green TC that might have been owned by a famous named person? Just wondering?

Before Vice President Harris became a household name, I owned a yellow '89 TC that originally belonged to someone named Kamala.

My research has revealed that, besides the vice president, there was a professional wrestler who went by the name Kamala.

This is a long shot, but does anyone know if either the wrestler or the VP ever owned a yellow TC?

Please keep this topic about the car, not politics or wrestling.

Let me know the 17 digit VIN by sending me a PM, best to take a photo, 569CABD7-2B88-424F-8D5A-DC5DAEA8BE25_1_105_c.jpeg.144e502f97831251b3d01d06e5effc97.jpeg

I will see if we have a record on that VIN.

This is [AN EXAMPLE] only. But you can see how the IMPACT ABSORBER #6 is inserted into a hole in the front bumper support structure of the body. There are generally 4 bolts which hold it in place and allow for 'SOME' up/down adjustment of the bumper.  I would look in this area for movement down which could have caused this 1/4" gap.

I'd give you a better example, but I'm currently in a cast on my left hand and manipulating the computer is a little more difficult.
