  1. Thanks for your reply Are you saying that for say, a 1929 Stutz model m the hourglass worm used in that steering box can only be used on that model? When you produced these worms did you make a complete range for a number of different gemmer boxes or are all 215 gemmer box worms the same ?
  2. I have two Gemmer marked steering boxes both right hand drive One has a cast Gemmer with the number 21529 then 2 under the 9. The other has Gemmer cast on it along with the number 21539 Also a number 628 stamped on the body The difference I see is the length of the steering column one being shorter than the other. My question is are these the correct gemmer box for the 1929 Stutz ? Also are there any parts available for for this model of gemmer ? Thanks
  3. What you can do with a steel drum is shrink a steel band around the OD of the existing drum then machine with undercut rings to help reduce weight and a bit of air cooling This does work and makes braking better with correct lining as I have done it If you have deep pockets and want to race the car have some cast in Aluminum alloy with a steel insert There is a company in the UK that have cast this up for some very fast original vintage cars Paint these up and even the experts will be unable to tell Some of the American cars of your period had steel drums with outer rings as well as hydraulic power assist brakes as standard
  4. On a 1929 Stutz M8 that has been fitted with a Stewart vacuum tank with the vacuum feed taken off the vacuum pump below the oil pump ,if the motor was run at idling speed only for a long period will the motor die off due to lack of fuel ? Are these vacuum pumps designed to give off more vacuum when car is a road speed and not designed to be run a idle speed for a long period? Has anyone installed a separate vacuum pump to run a Stewart Tank as off the manifold this car has a vacuum line that feeds a Brake servo unit that has been placed on this car Regards Len

    Stewart Vacuum

On a 1929 Model M Stutz that has been fitted with a Stewart Vacuum tank with the vacuum feed taken off the vacuum pump located below the oil pump, if the motor was allowed to idle for a long period of time will the motor die off due to the lack of petrol? Was the vacuum pump designed to give off the right amount of vacuum at road operating speeds only and not at idle speed? Regards Len
