  1. I am restoring a 1923 Kissel gas tank. It is mounted on the rear of the car and has a mechanical gas level gauge. My gauge is rusted solid, and cannot be repaired. VAPINC.COM had NOS gauges made by Motometer which are a good subsitute, but he is sold out. Any ideas who may have such parts or solution for me? Thanks Don don@tallcoil.com 917 957-1855
  2. WTB a handful of Just Rite oilers made in Chicago. These screw into the ends of the spring shackle bolts on the 1923 Kissel I am restoring. Someone must have a box of these in a dark corner somewhere!! Thanks for any help you can provide. Don
  3. Steve - was that Thomas Brothers? Unfortunately they are long gone. They specialized in early aircraft radiators. They were across the Island from me. Too bad I didnt apprentice with them one Summer to learn the art! Thanks, Don
  4. Thanks David, I will check them out. Vintage Wings and Radiators of the UK was also recommended. Don
  5. Can my fellow hobbyists recommend a fabricator to make a new honeycomb radiator core for a 1907 era car? It measures about 16 inches high, 22.5" wide and 4" deep. I have the person who can replace the core using the original tanks, which are in good condition. You can email me privately at don@tallcoil.com. Thanks, Don
  6. AJ - Mr. Miller did have the car running about 10 years before I saw it in the 1990s. He and his wife turned the crank on all of the cars at least every 6 months. I volunteered to do it for him when he was on in years, and he understood me perfectly and told me to spend all the time I want in his barns to look at the cars. He even had a Henderson touring car, since it used a Stutz rear end. He was such a nice man to me and my wife and little kids, and we visited him many time in Vermont and in NJ. I really feel bad about all the crap and criticism people have layed upon him. He may have been sharp in his dealings, but also he was contantly waiving off an onslaught of people who wanted to buy his cars cheap. He was one of the original free spirits in the 1930s when it was not the popular thing to do. One day I will write up a nice memorial to him. Don

  14. The Lancefield fabric bodied Stutz that AK Miller had found and purchased in England was supercharged. The factory supercharged chassis was exported to England where it was bodied, as AK recounted the story to me when he showed me the car in the early 1990s.

  18. Looking forward to next year's show - I can enter my '83 MB - one of my daily drivers - and drive right onto the show field and get cheap parking for the day! Only problem may be the old girl boiling over at crawl speed on line. Beats walking for miles through the "flea market" past rows of parked campers and mobile homes, passing one or two tables with parts for sale along the way. I would never enter one of my early brass cars in the show because I want to save them from the kind of abuse I saw inflicted on all the cars on Saturday morning. I have been going to Hershey since 1970 and only missed a few years due to overseas military service. This year was the first time I was diappointed by the event. I do recognize it is a huge event that requires tremendous time and energy to plan, but since it is so huge more professional talent is needed to help the Region with organization, traffic flow, etc, all the points raised by other members' comments. Also, I am getting older and starting to feel the pain of walking for miles for 3 days, most of it past parked cars and campers, although the exercise is a positive aspect of going to Hershey! One commentator had a great idea - to organize the vendors in specialty areas. Thanks to all those volunteers who help make the event possible - but it is time to hire proven professionals as well. Don
  19. Laydon: Do you know if these are the same wheels used on a 1923 HCS? I need 2 for my HCS. 23 inch diameter 5 inch total width from edge to edge, but the bead to bead where the tire sits is about 3.5 inches, Rear lip 1 inch high around the inner edge of the rim which matches the retaining ring mounted on the outer side of the wheel. On outer side of wheel, if laid flat on the floor, the hub height (back side to front side) is about 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 inches, and the hub sticks up a few inches from the top edge of the rim 24 spokes on the outer side, and 48 on the inner side. Thanks, Don
