  1. Dave, I did get a couple of carbide nozzles. The unit seems to work very nice. I dropped in some crushed glass and cleaned one of the heater parts from my De Soto. I did find a big problem though. My compressor blows! I mean it doesn't stop running and I have no idea how long that thing can keep going. Changing to a smaller Nozzle did nothing other than make it harder to clean the rust. So, I see a 2 stage compressor on the horizon. What kind of compressor do you have? Aside from the compressor, so far I like this unit...although there's all kinds of warnings. TP must have been sued at one time. I mean, wear a respirator? I thought that's what the cabinet and vacuum is for. I like the one about I could cut myself on sharp metal edges. What a strange world we live in these days!
  2. Thanks for the advice. I was afraid to pry. By the way, do you have two hood springs or one? I only have one and it looks to be intentional. But, my MOPAR knowledge is no too great and my manuals don't seem to have any pictures. Thanks! Gary
  3. So, I bit the bullet, since TP was having a sale, and bought their 960 Magnum cabinet. Sale price was $799 before paint, carpet, and headliner! I probably should have asked for some experience with this cab before getting it....but why do that when I can just waste some money! Anyhow, and after the fact, does anyone have this cabinet? Looks pretty good and it has a working width of about 42 inches. Comes with a vac and I added the wheel package since it's a bit on the heavy side. Hope to get it all hooked up tonight. Managed to sell enough stuff on eBay last weekend to pay for it...so I hope it works out. I'm sure my compressor will not be good enough now. Will most likely run until it drives me nuts. I'll get a review out soon in case anyone is even remotely interested!
  4. After looking around at Buicks.net, it seems that there may have been a 100 on the hand stamp. '54 Skylark - Starts with - V273956-100. The guy that wants my engine seems to think all he needs for a "numbers matching car" is the - 7. By the way, Dorothy's VIN is A8001581. So, how does my hand stamp match that?? Gary
  5. Since my '54 is for sale, I will not be needing the '54 Maryland tag that I recently picked up. It's in good shape. If you're interested email me at gnoub51@gmail.com. Price is $75, which is what I paid for it. Gary
  6. There's a hand stamp number on my '54 322. The number is V344052 7 . How is this number related to the VIN, it at all? Thanks! Gary
  7. Most likely it will fit others. Part number is 5641438. Not for a/c cars. $135 plus shipping. If interested, call me at 301/509-1233 or email gnoub51@gmail.com. Thanks! Gary
  8. Dorothy and Frankie made to eBay tonight. Dorothy on eBay Just thought I'd pass that on. Gary
  9. Ah, Lamar.....the way I look at things, you aren't getting any younger so NOW is the time to get the stuff you want. Right? As you know (I think), our Iowa buddy wanted to trade for a '49 Roadmaster. Trading one box of parts for another just doesn't seem too smart. Speaking of selling the '54's, I will be putting the car on ebay tonight. I don't usually have much luck there....at least with the race car anyway. People just try to steal that one. Gary
  10. No, only had step children and they went with the Mother. Yea!

  12. Well, I've been wrestling with this for awhile, but I've got to stop one of my projects. My '48 De Soto and '50 Buick have won the coin toss, so, the '54's have to go. Will be putting them on eBay soon. If you have any interest please email me soon. gnoub51@gmail.com. I'm putting a mini brochure together that will address all items of price, parts, etc. Gary 301/509-1233
  13. I think there's four auctions going at the same time. BJ; Silver; RM and Russo and Steele. The RM acution is high end real classic stuff. I like the 37 Chrysler Imperial Brogham non airflow. The coupe is cool too. This one's nice.
  14. By the way, Lamar tells me I owe you some Fisher manuals. I have like a three inch stack that was sent to me from someone in the "chain" so to speak. I had an idea that I would get these scanned and then have the opportunity to email the whole thing in a PDF file. The only issue I have right now is finding a place that scans. I'll try to get that to the front burner. Have a great and warm weekend while we freeze here. But that might be a good thing. Maybe all the dunderheads in Washington will stay home or maybe get stuck somewhere and not be able to get back to the "office" for a very long time!! Gary
  15. If you have an interest, please email me at gnou51@gmail.com. Or call 301/509-1233. Will send out a pic if you need one. Price is $250. Not sure what to do about shipping. Would hope you would pick up. The price is what I paid two months ago. I'm in Frederick, MD. Gary

  18. I need to shop where some of you guys do. I just bought some parts for my '48 De Soto from a yard in S. Dakota with about 2,500 Cars old cars. And, these parts were not complete, rather just cut off the car in the yard, like the bottom 12 includes of a fender, etc. Four parts cost 3/4 of what I paid for the entire car (well, it is a basket case). Anyway, I'm sure that yard is not crushing much at these prices. But then, Mopar stuff seems to be hard to find. Gary
  19. BJ is not the place for those cars for the most part. There are other auction houses around for that. BJ is the here and now TV spectacle, meaning, resto mods and muscle cars. There's a simultaneous auction by a company called Silver. We checked them out as well. The long and short was the car quality was low and so were the prices, but there were a lot more old cars. I am with you guys on the older car stuff. I really have my sights on a '37 Chrysler Imperial. Good luck finding one. And, the '34 Chrysler Coupe is really nice too. Of course, I would love a '47 Sedanette. But, I also love well resto mods too. Now the rat rod thing, that's another story and not for me. Watching BJ on TV does not really give you the correct perspective. There's a ton of stuff there and enough to keep even a purist happy. I can only take sitting in the center and listening to the auction for about an hour. There is so much more to see. And a lot more variety that you might think, with some incredible quality of work. Anyone who's worked on a car, regardless of a restoration or modification, has to enjoy and appreciate the work that has gone into many of the cars there. Looking at a '55 - '57 T-Bird restored by Amos Minter is looking at a work of art. And there's always 3 or 4 to see of his each year. It's one of those, you have to be there kind of things.
  20. According to my Master Chassis Parts Book, the ring and pinion are a set listed as group number 5.529. Part numbers listed as follows: Includes Case: 1950 - 1954 (Super and Roadie) - Part Number 1393993 (3.60 Gears) 1950 - 1953 (All) 1393993 (3.90 gears) Less Case: 1950 - 1952 (All) 1393846 (3.90 gears) 1950 - 1953 (ALL) 1393848 (3.90 gears) 1953 - 1954 (All AT) 1392187 (3.60 gears) 1954 - 1955 (50-60-70 AT) 1392481 (3.36 gears) I have a Buick interchange manual that says the following interchange: "Complete Rear Axle Assembly" - 1951 - 1955 (Super and Roadie). The Master Chassis book does not list the "Carrier" for 1954, just torque tube part number, but lists differential cases as: 1953 - 1955 - Part number 1163401 (Bolt on type) 1954 - 1955 - Part number 1318707 (Riveted on type) ------------ OK, if I'm reading Hollander correctly, it looks like 1940 - 1955 Buick ring and pinion's were the same with exceptions of Model 80 and 90. It then gives me more data as follows: The Assembly is listed as Hollanders item #433. This indicates that this is the carrier assemble less Torque tube and propeller shaft and the same applies: Indicates 1940 - 1955 except 80 and 90 series interchange - Buick only. Then it goes on to list their item #439. This would be the whole torque tube, propeller shaft and carrier assembly. Under this item, it does not show interchanges and provides part numbers that don't match the years in the Buick Master Chassis Parts book. But then if you see Hollanders item #369, this is ring gear and pinion only. Then it get's even muddier saying you are limited to '53 - '55. I can always copy the pages and send them to you if you'd like. I guess I didn't clear up a thing. Gary
  21. Matt: Glad to see you're back. The first site that got me going on redoing an old car was yours. I've gone off the deep end since spending too much money on junk; buying things I don't want; and being addicted to eBay parts, most of which I'll be selling. I really just want to concentrate on my De Soto, which will be modified slightly, or be consumed by rust, which ever happens first! I got all involved in a '54 Buick project but have lost all interest since I really wanted a '47 or '48 Sedanette in the first place. My garage, unfortunately is now littered with cars I don't want. I think I've learned to stay focused now. Hope you get the new garage up to speed. Gary
  22. Stupid question: Should my '48 have a spring on each hinge, or just one on the passenger side as I have now. I usually wouldn't ask such a dumb question....well maybe I would, but I don't seem to have any info, and by the looks of the hinges, the passenger side has a notch, for the spring, on the cowl mount and the drives side doesn't. If everything wasn't so rusted away, maybe I could figure this out myself. I would post this under the De Soto section, but there isn't much activity there. Thanks! Gary
  23. Shakespeare was right!! Time to fire up the cauldron. No offense to Buick head attorney's here!! Gary
